owner of the tank said he bought it and i cant remember the name of it but it covered all the rocks and his water was chrystal clear it looked like grass does anyone know what this might be?

it was an african tank and i cant remember the name of the algae. but it was beutiful but didnt ask too many questions as i wasent in to africans @ that time.i wish i could find out what it was and where he bought it.

Well I don't think freshwatter folk really discuss the algae names much, it's likely to have had little to do with watter clarity filtration and watter changes do a better job then algae, if it was long i'd simply call it hair algae mine can get up to about three inches if i'm keeping my mbuna a little too full.

Unless you introduced some direct from the source, it would be very difficult to just grow this particular type of algae. Maybe look for some rocks your lfs has, and ask them if you could borow a small piece or buy one. Thenintroduce it into your tank. :)

A natural part of Mbuna diet is algae and I know freddyk encourages it to some extent in his tank(s), i'm guessing you've seen something along these lines.
