Filter for 5 gallon is on its way out-.- Does this look alright? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fluval-U1-Underwater-Filter-250LPH/dp/B0020K966M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330981075&sr=8-1

Depending on what fish you have, you might find the flow a bit strong, but fluval are good filters.
You might find the Fluval mini better in a 5 gallon

I've got the u3 (2 sizes up) and i like it alot. But that filters quite a bit too big for your tank isnt it? 5 gallons is 22 litres and it says that filter is for tanks up to 55 litres. I just think it might look abit big in and unsightly in your tank. I've had the fluval mini on a 25 litre before and it kept the water crystal clear, worth having a look :good:

Does anyone use the old style air pump powered filters any more? Would that be sufficient for a Betta and shrimp?

I used to use one in my fry tank.
In a Betta tank it would be fine

Good! I found it as £13 so I'll give it a try!

An air powered filter would be just the thing for a tiny tank like that. I still use them on tanks up to about 20 gallons, about 75 litres.

I think that's the filter that hagen are marketing as the replacement for the elite mini. I have the elite mini in my 25 litre betta's tank. The thing I don't like about the marina one is that it has a cartridge that contains zeolite and carbon. If I were to get one of these filters, I'd throw away the cartridge and replace it with sponge. The reason I like the elite mini is because it has sponge, and nothing else. Pity they don't make it any more.

If you can get hold of an elite mini, I would definitely get one as they have an adjustable speed on the flow, useful for a betta.

Bettas don't like strong currents, so if anything I'd rather go for a filter thats a little to small than a filter that might be too powerful. Try a small HOB filter - relatively gentle flow, easy to baffle :good: If one of those won't fit on your tank, try a small air powered sponge filter :good:
