I Need Some Help With Results....my Fish Are Dying

Have read about all your troubles with great interest and huge amount of sympathy also. It's horrble when you're all keen about your new tank and have put massive amounts of time and effort into getting everything right only for it to go wrong at the final hurdle. I am also new to tropical fishkeeping and currently fishless cycling my tank. Only 45l (10gal UK) mind, not like your gigantic bohemouth :). I am doing the add daily method (still waiting for nitrite to drop) and was worried about fully stocking my tank when finished like it recommends. However, after reading about your plight I think I will pretty much fully stock my tank within 24hours of adding my last lot of ammonia to reduce the risk of bacteria levels dropping. Hope all goes well

:p

IMO the fish were freaked out by the sudden change. as suggested before, aquarium salt would have been good, but with the plecs added, its a no go area now.

After doing my fishless cycle, one of my zebra danios died of mouth fungus infection that sadly took ages to diagnose. after checking around alot, it appears that the fish concerned will have just had its immune system hit rock bottom due to the changes and succumbed to bacteria that is always in the water no matter what.

i then suffered a broken prop in the filter, which in 2 hours turned my tank into pea soup fog.

luckily my supply water is great and i conducted a 100% water change with little effect on the fish.

do not use water from your hot water tank. deposits f lime and metals from the tank will be not good. if you must, boil water in a clean kettle and mix in a bucket, but preferably heat through sitting in a room or with a small heater (my choice)

Congrats!

I can imagine being very downheartened at your experience! Going though fishless cycling only for the cycle to break near the end seems like such a waste doesn't it?

Either way, in a months time you'll have forgotten all about this and you'll be considering how many more fish need to go in the tank :D

Enjoy it :)
