I just currently removed 7 or so small snails from my aquarium while doing a water change. I really need some loaches to eat the snails but I'm not sure which ones I can get. I have a 20 gallon tank with 3 corys, 3 dwarf gouramis, and 3 platys. At my pet shop there are only clown loaches and yoyo loaches. I know that clown loaches can get pretty big. I've also heard that yoyo loaches can sometimes be aggressive. What should I do?

I mean one of these - Assassin Snail is a species of snail :hey:

Well I don't think they have those at my pet store. They have some big mystery snails, but they their shell is yellow.

Assassin snails will do the job, but i also find my apistogramma cichlids do a pretty good job at cleaning them up.. I squish any they miss.

Anything else besides that? Not sure if they have those at my pet store.

... Get some sewing thread, tie a piece of lettuce or cucumber to a rock or something heavy enough to sink.

Plonk it in your tank just before lights out.
In the morning it should be covered in snails (if your fish didn't get peckish).. pull it out, squish the buggers, then do it all again tomorrow.

Its the slow way, but it'll get there eventually.

Ok thanks, I've heard of that way before just never knew exactly how to do it. Will try it when I start to see more.

No worries :good:

Hope you can catch it before it gets out of hand.. I had a snail explosion about a month ago, and i'm still squishing the little things.

They breed when there's excess food in the tank, so maybe you're overfeeding?? But then again you said you had Corydora's didn't you.. They take ages to eat, thats why I have my problem, the snails get to the food before my Cory's do, useless fish.

I had a HUGE snail problem too about a month ago. I had to clean out my whole tank because there were so many. It was because of the live plants that I bought for it. But now that I removed them and I just have fake plants I don't know how they could of possibly returned, but they did. :/
