Wow - thank you all!
Hooray! We had rain this morning! It rained for a few hours. I know that's not nearly enough to take care of the problem, but it certainly helped to get the ground wet a little bit. I'm sure the fish enjoyed the drops.
Wolf - that's awesome, thank you!!! I'm going to have to turn on WPR now to see if they say anything about it! hee hee
I found out for sure last night that these guys are all volunteer, too, so they were doing this on their time after their normal everyday regular jobs. And the coolest thing is that as we (the apartment residents) were all standing around joking about how crazy my call was, the firemen were talking about how cool it is for them to get to do things like this, and they assured me it wasn't a waste of their time because they got practice in pumping and stuff like that. And they also told me some stories about how they have saved baby ducks from sewers when their momma ducks had walked over storm drains and the babies fell down in.
I will take the camera home with me again tonight and get some more pictures. They didn't know when they'd be able to come over and start up again but hopefully it will be started before dark so I can get some pics.
These guys are awesome. I am planning to put together a little "thank you" package with fishy - themed stuff in it. So far I have thought of goldfish crackers, swedish fish candy and fishy-shaped cutout cookies. I'm also going to put lifesavers in it too. And I will be writing to the local newspaper also - that's a very good idea!
Be back later!
