I Need Help For A Friend And His Fish

recently a friend informed me that he has an 'african cichlid' the size of his fist in a 10g tank. WHAT?! i know what your thinking. so we immediatly began the search for bigger housing.
BUT we dont know what it is. or what else we can house with it.
he purchased a 55g
this is the fish:

what is it, and what can he have with it in a 55g?
he has named it 'dracula' because it kills everything he puts in with it as he says, well i say 'yeah no sh*t sherlock lol those fish are aggressive and territorial!'
please help!

any info will be gratly appriciated!

your friend does not have an african, he has a CONVICT, better posted in the NEW WORLD area but I can tell you that they aint called convict for nothing! their mean as a snake, and when you throw a female in there (please dont they breed like RATS) the aggression gets amped up x's100!! lol

a jack dempsey or just ONE oscar would be a better tank mate for the stripped lil dude!

glad he got a bigger tank though! shows he's got the fish's best interest in mind!

They aren't that aggressive when kept alone, just like a normal cichlid normally. If it has been kept alone for a long time it will consider the whole tank it's own, that will be why it's so aggressive. When breeding they are at their worst, as has been said.

ok so a convict is a new world? ok cool cuz i guess the place he bought it had it labeled as an african. stupid pet store people. lol
well thanks for the info i guess i will mosey on over to the new world thread and do some reading on them!
