I just got a 10 gallon tank a week ago. I set up my tank a week ago and now Ive added 3 tetras. Im worried about cycling the tank with them in it. I also have a seperate tank with a betta in it. Would it help if I put some of the rocks from the beta tank into my new tank to help it cycle faster?

If you were worried about cycling the tank with them in you should have waited until the tank was fully cycled, also if you have any filter media from your betta tank you could squeeze some of that onto your new filter pads.

hey dont give me a hard time...i only knew what the petsmart people told me and they told me to add fish after 3 days...
i just started reading all of this and realized that i should have done things differently and would like to fix it the best i can!!!!

Sorry about that, but more often than not fish/pet shops just want you to buy their fish and will often give wrong advice. :S

thanks...i guess i'll just have to check my water and do water changes if there are problems. I didnt have a filter in my betta tank. could i add some of the rocks to my new tank, or would that not work?

I'm sure it would help, it won't do any harm

If you don't have a filter in the betta tank, there won't be any beneficial bacteria or at least not enough to matter. Don't worry about moving gravel. The best thing to do is just start testing the water daily for ammonia and nitrite and make water changes (about 20%) as needed (up to 2 or 3 times a day if necessary) to try to keep the ammonia and nitrite under .25 ppm. With only 3 tetras (what type are they) the ammonia shouldn't jump too quickly. Feed them lightly also. The less you feed them, the less waste they will produce and the less left over food there will be to decay and turn into more ammonia.

Also, since the betta tank isn't filtered, you should be doing 100% water changes on that tank at lest every 2 or 3 days to keep the ammonia level safe there. And only feed him what he will eat. Don't put a lot in the tank and have some of it go uneaten and rot.
