Well i am planing on breeding two of my bettas and am having truble finding good things to feed them for conditioning. I currently feed them TetreMin Tropical granulets. and some flakes. They look really healthy butn people keep saying bloodworms. I went to 3 petstores and they only had frozen i was looking for live. what can i give them that would be healthy for them and not so hard to find? Or should i buy frozen bloodworms? im Confused :*)

Frozen bloodworms are better than live for two simple reasons:

1) They don't turn into anything else, like mosquitos.
2) Hikari brand adds extra nutrients to their bloodworms.

Go with the frozen bloodworms.

You can get live bloodworm? Wou!! Interesting. Fozen bloodworm are fine. ;)

Get frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp, Bettas love them and its found at any Petco or Petsmart.. flakes and freeze-dried is definitely not enough for conditioning. Live worms can carry parasites, and cause dropsy, so be verrry careful with that -_-

I also agree that you should switch them to a high quality pellet food specialized for Bettas, such as Hikari Betta Bio-Gold.

I'm wondering,if you can't even find live foods for your breeders, where are you going to get the microworm, vinegar eel, and daphnia cultures for your babies? And BBS?

Oh no need to be harsh. I have a provider of that stuff atmy lfs i used to work at i ordered some microworms. I am going to release the pair this week and they were very well conditioned. I finally got blood worms yestuday morning and didnt get much intrest in them except for attention from my guppies in my other tank. The pellets i feed them are actually one of the best betta pellets. I know what im doing. :D

My bettas won't even touch tropical granules or flakes. picky little boogers. As a matter of fact my tropical fishies won't touch flakes either. I must have a bunch of brats. Goodluck with your pair.

If you want to try a live food, why not black worms, my betta loves them, here is a link for sustaing you own culture.

Keeping a Blackworm Culture

All of my fish love them, and if you keep your own sustaining culture it is a pretty cheap food
