facing the possibility of re-homing my parrot fish from my big tank.

it's a trigon 350 so corner tank, aprox 92 us gallons.

if I re-home polly it'll leave a red tiger oscar (10"), an albino common plec (6") and a common syno (6")

Oscar leaves alone plecs, catfish, bottom dwellers basically but doesn't seem he'll tolerate free swimming companions.

sooo i was thinking if polly goes i'd maybe have room for another plec?? what do you reckon and can you make some recommendations, I'd like something pretty, relativley hardy and not too shy.

if i can't get any more in that's fine just say so, was just wondering!

I love Bristlenose myself, they dont get too big and mine are out all the time.

I got two males off someone on the forum and they are great

saw a pic of an albino BN the other day that was really cute. however as i have an albino common and a syno the same sort of colour as normal BN's in there i'd maybe like something a bit more colourful/different

Does it have to be a plec?

nope, just needs to be bottom dwellers, so i'm open to catfish, loaches etc as well..... just thought i'd look at plecs first cos there isn't a forum that covers all of them!

Would pictus work?

I love clown loach myself.

yeah pictus are cute, i'll look into them.

meh i just don't see the attraction with clown loaches, they do nothing for me!

You've got to love loaches to have them, otherwise the fact that most medecines are tricky with them outweighs the positives (personally I love them but wont get them again).

Shame you dont have the royal any more, he'd have been perfect for in there, slow growing, good looking - heavily armoured! A rusty would be nice in there, they're pretty, clean up more than most pretty plecs, and can stick up for themselves too. I love mine (so maybe I'm biased) - another good thing is that they're quite cheap compared to other showy plecs. I got mine from Leeds too ;)

yeah i love your rusty Lisa he's a stunning fish.

what L no is he so i can look him up?

the other option is there's a green phantom plec i've been eyeing up in the lfs for absolutely months now, only he's not that big and i'd maybe worry he'd get eaten/picked on cos he's quite small. :/

so do you reckon i've room in there for something else then? even once Al's all grown up?

You could probably get away with it if you kept up on the maintenance :) Rusty is an L077 I think *looks on PC*...yep:

A GP would be nice - but I'm not sure how big they get in total. But it'd be worth looking into as they are omniverous with a tendency to a meatier diet, so would be ok cleaning up stray cichlid pellets (more so than a royal or a panaque).

Ok just looked up L200s (green phantom) and they get to 7.5". I dont know how quick growing they are though - might be worth getting one as big as poss, problem being they'd be £40+ easily.

yeah absolutely, maintenance is always the key.

i tend to struggle when thinking about heavily stocking bottom crew.... i never know how much floor space they're all gonna need and i just get a bit confused!!

stray cichlid pellets ???? what are they ???? ;)

aye, i don't mind paying a bit for something nice. i wouldn't be gettng anything for a bit anyway, even if we do re-home polly we'll still leave it a bit to make sure oscar doesn't turn on al or spot as it is.

I'm fairly confident whatever I want I can get Duncan to order me in a nice specimin. :good:

cool, i'll look up rusty and L200 as well.

any more suggestions people?? :D

Leading Question... But how about an L024 - Flame Cactus plec ;)

Get to 12" and will be fine with the oscar (look at his armour!)

Here is the leading bit... I happen to have 3 :) - one is for keeps - 2 for sale.

he he he he your an absolute disgrace!!!

they are quite pretty...... how big are they currently and how much are you asking for them?

even if we do decide to it probably won't be for a while yet, if Polly goes then we'd like to leave things how they are for a few months at least to make sure Oscar isn't gonna turn on Spot and Al

They are about 4" at the moment...

Up for £40 - but only so I can be knocked down a bit :)

hmmm ideally i'd be looking for something a little bigger than that, i'd want something at least knocking on for 6" so it's big enough Oscar can't eat it!!

however it'll probably be a couple of weeks before Polly is re-homed and after that i'd like to monitor things for at least a month to make sure Oscar isn't going to divert his attentions to Al and Spot before I put anything else in there.

So I won't ask you to hold one for me or anything like that, but i'll give you a shout when I'm looking and if you've still any left then we'll talk! :good:
