So, i'm at Petco looking around today because they've been getting some pretty decent bettas from local breeders it seems like. I purchased a purple/white crowntail last week from them and went back today to see their female situation. So anyways, i stumble across a girl that is completely vertical struggling to survive in her cup, so i buy her and am trying to rehab her, i'm guessing swim bladder. so anyways i find two other pretty girls i like and get them. I get up to the register and the lady goes "Oh you cant put these in the same tank". I just ignored it and slid my debit card and bougth them, after that she goes "have a good night, AND BE SURE NOT TO PUT THEM IN THE SAME TANK!"

It took everything in me to not be like "If you knew anything about fish or went to another LFS you would see that females are kept in the same tank, big ones, not little cups!!

she was right,

you were buying two females, with a female tank, you need at least 4 females or they will fight. so in theory you cant put two females together, and the lady was right.

I bought 3 and I have 5 already at home = no fight, serenity.

I just don't like Petco in general. The have some pretty crowntail bettas at the local on here. But in one of their other tanks the had 4 dead fish at the bottom of the tank. Also their cockatiels I think where badly taken care of (Sorry I had to throw that in I've had a very happy cockatiel for the past 7 years).

The lady at the register isn't the same as the people who work in the fish department. I personally will always ask people if they are getting a female because they like the shorter fins. 9 times out of 10 it's some idiot who thinks they can put a male and a female together.

Well then, she was still correct. The lady doesn't know your set-up at home. The fish wellfare was her interest. So, I conclude with... Not all petstore personel are unintelligent!

I agree that she prob wasn't unintelligent but there is ways of asking questions or getting your information heard in different ways. She could have said that it it is advisable not to keep 2 females together and that it is better to keep them in bigger groups. Or she could have asked if you have kept female bettas before. Some places it seems like they just have a standard thing they say and thats it. x

Can I just say that just because she gave you some incorrect informationn regarding the girls does not make her un-intelligent, it just means her knowledge is lacking in that area.

I am going to be un popular here again.

I am female huh but not daft stupid unintelliegent or otherwise.

If anyone has more knowledge and feels they cannot discuss and pass it on to me they are much less intelligent.

Intelligence is a gift to pass on as is knowledge we were all born without knowing so come on mates.

:shout: SHOUT AND TELL AND SAVE THE FISHES.

She could have been 50% right sometimes I cant tell a female fish to a male one.

My plec Gouramis and even my neutered cat is he on a good day and a silly woman on a bad .................

rant over
