I Kind Of "made" My Own Sponge Filter....

Sorry, I know I posted this topic somewhere else, but hey guys! I was told by a mod on the forums that if I bought an AC70 filter sponge, poked a hole in it, and put it on my filter intake, it would act like a sponge filter. Is this true?

It seems to be working pretty good!
But, is it too good to be true? Because it was so easy and cheap to make, and it seems to be working so good... (Not sucking up the babies, beneficial bacteria growing, filter not clogging, etc.) Can this actually be happening to me!?
Please answer soon! I would like to fix anything that is wrong quickly, because I have 5 little babies in there!

P.S. This is the site that first got me thinking about this method... (Because I can't find a real sponge filter anywhere!)

Also, I don't want to make a real sponge filter, because even the simplest ones confuse me. The one that I made is the only one I understand. So, please just tell if it will work or not! Please don't tell me how to make a sponge filter! That's not what I'm asking! Thanks!

Definately a filter and looks to be working (I can tell cus the fry in the photo is not part of the filter lol). The only thing I'd worry about is it dropping off the inlet for whater reason, maybe a boisterous fish would knock it. I know some of mine would have a good sniff at it and probably pull it off in the process. Other than that I'd say good job

Yes, that's all I understand. I am very slow...

I only have fry in the tank, so I won't have to worry about fish knocking it off.
