Hi all :) ,

I only started this hobby at the beginning of 2005 without a single ounce of knowledge in keeping fish. I was very unsure and convinced that any fish I got would die.

As such I joined this forum at the same time. I had no idea what to expect from it but thought I would just have a look through a couple of times and hope to pick up a few bits of useful information to help me on my way.
How wrong I was!

Two months down the line and I cannot believe how much I have learned!! I feel at ease in my ability to keep my current community fish (in my sig) and am now expanding further to keeping Mbuna. I am even hoping to start up a much larger tank (some time in the nearish future) and try my hand at NW cichlids.

"Tankbusters" and "monster" fish may come later too, who knows!!?

I find myself on this forum every day. If I don't post then I am looking through as many threads as possible to see what's going on in everyone else's tanks.

My knowledge has improved so much that I now find myself posting confident responses to requests for help on fish that I and never have kept and problems that I have never encountered myself!!!!

I even have the guts to now tell the LFS's where they are going wrong!!!

I appreciate I have a loooooooooonnnnng way to go and my knowledge is minimal compared to that of most others on this forum, however, to all those that have helped, suggested, advised, confiemd, praised, criticised and even lambasted my queries, ideas and doings I (and I am sure there are more on here that the feel the same way) justed wanted to say a big THANK YOU!!

Despite the flaming etc that seems to have been going on of late (I know frustration can take over sometimes!!) your hearts really are in the right place and all you really want to do is try to help.

There is no better forum and I think you are all great!

cheers

Thankyou for letting people know this. It kinda makes it all worthwhile!!!

Even people I have argued with from time to time have helped me and vice versa when the need arose. I guess it is all give and take.

I will look forward to news of your mbuna tank....I knw I find mine very rewarding

I can echo your sentiments - I started in July 2004 and don't know what would have happened to my fish without this forum. Thank you people!

And Steve, you'd better figure out how to post pics because EVERYONE on here wants to see your mbuna tank when it's stocked....it's a bit like a new nephew - we've seen the pregnancy and we all want to be in at the birth! Ditto to Navarre's new reef tank. I come home from work and the first thing I do is check to see if any new pics have been posted!

What on earth did I do with all that free time before fish and TFF????

Sarah

i agree with you & should say thanks too to everyone that has helped me on this forum . id always wanted to keep fish but never did it, my husb had fish as a child & hes the one that suggested we get a tank & im so glad he did, i love our fish & fishkeeping & ive learnt so so much on this forum & dont know how id do without it., i was a complete novice when we started.......so thanks to everyone who has helped me so so much over the past 3, nearly 4 years...im sure our fishies ( the ones we've had for nearly 4 years now - tiger barbs, corys, red eyes & yoyos )& our newies have survived & thrived thanks to all your great advice & help :D :D :D :D

I will agree with everything said. A newbie in December, I feel like I have learned an enormous amount already and am leearning more everyday. I love that this forum is so international and you get a sense of how people do things outside the US.

THANK YOU to everyone.

I would like to make one request of the experts in this forum: Please visit the other forums besides Chit Chat on a regular basis. I want to post my questions in the proper place but I am sometimes reluctant to put a post about hardware, for instance, in the Hardware section because not many people go there and you aren't nearly as likely to get your question answered. Other than that, keep up the good work!!!!

Steve,im so glad that you feel this way, and as you can see everyone feels the same way! I myself knew nothing about africans and read every thread i could, now im scared when i can rattle off info on them!

I wish to add my own thanks to that of the others, I know ive been around longer than some of you and not posted as much but what ive learned is phenomanel

Couldnt agree more. The forum (and quest for more finned knowledge) is almost as addicting as the fish themselves. Keep up the informative posts, and try to keep things up beat. This forum has a very human touch and must be commended. =D

Yes i love the forum to a lot of helpful people on here, and you never stop learning.

Hmmm, I wonder if TFF will pay us to advertise for them. Then we could buy more tanks
