I Just Got....

It's cycling right now. When you added the fish, the ammonia from the waste and food got the cycle started. You don't have to start it.

I'd suggest you do everything RDD stated in his posts, as it is all good advice and it will help it be the best cycle for your fish. :)

You can cycle with the fish in the tank but it will involve testing your water every day and making sure the ammonia and nitrite levels don't get higher than .5 ppm (preferable no higher than .25 ppm). This will involve doing daily water changes of 15 to 25 percent. Also, less food means less waste and less ammonia so feed sparingly. Fish can easily go for a week without food so feeding every other day won't hurt them.

What you do now is get a Liquid test kit, test your water very frequently, and do water changes to keep the levels below .5 ppm (Absolute max..lower is better) on ammonia and nitrite. Also feed them less. Basically, do what RDD told you to do. :)

The Guppies might die. They aren't very hardy, and cycling is stressful. The Betta probably can survive the cycling process, as long as you keep up on your water changes and keep the levels low enough. :)

Please, please be careful.

I thought my tank had been cycled enough after 8 weeks, and it turned out that it hadn't and i have lost 6 fish which im gutted about, and even with water changes etc my nitrites are still high, so its going to take a while to get the tank back to normal.

It can take months for a tank to have the ideal conditions for fish...... im not an expert, but i have learnt from my mistakes. Please dont make the same mistakes as me.

What fish do you have in the tank. I was under the impression you only had the 2 male guppies and the betta. You defintiely don't want danios and a betta together.

what about the zebra danios

Zebra Danios are pretty good at cycling tanks, as they are very hardy. However, a 15 gallon will be a little on the small side for them, since they need schools and lots of room. They are also known to be nippy, and could nip on your Betta and your Guppy's tails.

I'd skip them, and stick with the fish you have now. Just concentrate on cycling the tank before you get more fish. :)

Danios are very active and fast fish (as Annastasia said, they need a large tank). Their speed and activity in general will stress the betta and they may also nip at him too.

I'm not RDD, but I'd guess he'd mean because Zebra Danios are known to be nippy, and long Betta tails are prime targets. Also, Zebra Danios are very active, and could stress out slower moving fish. Some Bettas are slower, depending on the temperment. :)

Edit: Nevermind, RDD answered. :)

ok here goes

bettas and guppies cant be kept together. You can try it but most likley the betta will kill the guppies.

You need to cycle the tank otherwise your fish will die.It isnt optional.
seems as though you already got fish you should be responsible and try and return them to the store. If you cant and you have done everything in your power to try and return them but cant then youll have to do a fishless cycle. But be prepared for the fish to die, especially the guppies.Do a cycle just as it says on the pinned topic.Read it 10 times over then follow the instructions :p
You should go to the store a.s.a.p and buy a test kit. This will tell you how far along in the cycle your tank is.

As for the danios :X your tank is too small and they cant be kept with bettas or guppies as they will nip their tails causing them to die.

If you did ask these questions before you got the fish(which i didnt see the topic so cant be sure)im not too sure why you got the fish in the 1st place.....but anyway its done now.just dont get any more!
sorry if i sounded a little harsh.
