What a lovely clean tank, im sure that fish is very happy.... [/end sarcasm]

That looks like one unhappy fish in from what i can see quite a small tank that has had little maintanence if any over the last 6 months or more?

It does sadden me to see people keeping fish in conditions such as these.

Ben
it realy sadens me to sniff :-( :-( sniff

that white stuff grew on my betta tank sides, I think it was a type of algea, but I have NEVER seen any with the color before.

Does anyone know before the 20 gallon what tank size the fish was in? From what I got, the fish in the pic is the one in the linked post.

Okay Okay, I am the inherited owner of this fish and there are many things to explain before you lot jump to even more conclusions......

1st - Harry is AT LEAST 18 years old!!! So he isnt doing too badly.

2nd - Harry used to belong to the mother of one of my lecturers at university. When she died, nobody wanted him or Humprey The Catfish (that's right, not even her sons) so I took the little fella's.

3rd - you all seem to be saying that he is "deformed", i would like to point out that he was this way when i inherited him 3 years ago.

4th - the tank (which came with the fish and they have lived in for all their lives) is pretty big, much bigger than you see from the photo.; its at least 250 litres

5th - they have a fully working filter and new double-airation pump.

6th - the reason the tank seems so grim (which is the reason for me posting the problem on the forum as i needed some help) is because last week I moved house and i moved the fish with me. Before we moved, they were perfectly happy, regular water changes, lovely clean tank, happy fish (thank you very much!). When i moved i did a full clean and changed some of the water. Clearly this is how the problem has arisen as I have over cleaned and removed to much good bacteria. I am aware of this now and I thank BOD for all his helpful advice. :)

7th - thank you for your identification of my fish, I am glad to know what he his. It's a shame you all think he is not very pretty though......i don't help fish because they are pretty but because they needed a home.

Hope that clears a few things up!

all I want to say is....GOOD FOR YOU  .

There's not many that would take on a fish like that :/ .

And the fact that he has lived for another three years since you took him on in that state shows how settled he actually is  .

good stuff :D .

I'm sorry....didn't know he was that old. Well then something must have been done right to have lived for so long!

So what has happened with the bacteria situation? Is he getting settled in? Hope all goes well.

hey

i have been doing part-water changes and not feeding them. The smell is gone and the water looks less murky. Fingers crossed they wil be alright!

By the way -thanks all who helped i.d him! Nice to know what he is! :)

Ta la

is the problem the algea on the plant? I seem to be confussed now.

But if that is part of the issue, you could boil the plants, or blach them if fake, diluted bleach ofcourse, or get a peacefull algea eater that eats hair algea.

also, what kind of catfish is in with him?

also, when you get the tank all straightened out, maybe get the fish a friend to school with, that would make the fish happy, as the fish is a schooling fish.

:p too all the people who called him ugly....hehehe....cute little bean...

he IS beautiful and i think your great for rescuing him and giving him a happy life
