I have my fish... now what?

I would not suggest Emperor Tetras here, I think having had them a couple times, both species, a 3-foot tank is best. They do like to swim around. And mine got rather feisty with all the other characins in the tank, and that was in a 5-foot tank. No idea why, but it is an active species and this usually means more space requirements.

More neons are OK, you have eight (and the pandas) and you could double this if you wanted. I would increase the pandas with a couple more, say 9 total. There is room for another species or two, but it needs to be smallish and peaceful.

Sounds good - then again, no idea when I will be able to get more. Thanks! :good:

Ok. Do honey Gourami’s eat shrimp?

Don't know if this is still a question you have, but honey gourami's eat shrimp fry, if you've got plenty space for them to hide by the time they reach half an inch they should be safe! I have a lovely colony sitting here with three honeys no problem, but yes, some fry will be eaten, though honestly I've not noticed a difference in the overall colony numbers :)

GUYS!

Because of the fact that I am not moving, I can get more fish!! And, with my lately created budget, I have $41 in the "Fish" category.

More Neon Tetras and some Ember Tetras will be my next purchase, followed by some more advanced plants.

Neon Tetras are either $2 or $3 per fish at my LFS and I plan to get 7 more. (So I have 14 total)

Then I plan to get around 8 Ember Tetras. That is a decent starting number. Not sure when I will get to go to my LFS though...

I would like to start looking into getting some more fish for my 29g tank. Preferably fish with bright colors. (Schooling fish)

My GH is 159 mg/L or 9.3 grains of calcium carbonate per gallon.

My current stock: [8] Neon Tetras, [5] Panda Corydoras, [1] Male Albino BNP, [40+] Cherry Shrimp, [1] Zebra Nerite snail, MTS and BRH snails.

@Byron
Have always liked those glass catfish , very unusual and striking fish . I think a school of those would look awesome.

I love them as well, but my tank is to small. SF recommends 90cm x 30cm (30in x 11in) as a minimum tank base dimensions. A 29g tank is 30in x 12in.

I hear they are also super skittish.

So I second thought, I may go with some harlequin rasbora's or some Ruby Tetras. I defiantly don't want to order them, because they come in a week after.

I may just have a list of what I could have, go to my LFS, and get what i like the look at. I'm picking through this thread to find recommended names.

Do any of the guys have any more suggestions? (Please look on Page 1, post #1 to see my water hardness and current stock*)

*NOTE: I no longer have the Panda Corys

Add some kuhli loaches into the mix, as well as some pencilfish.

Kuhli Loaches would be sweet, but they are a tab small for a 29g tank, and wouldn’t they easily get lost? Also, would they collide with my Pleco?

What about some more zebra danios at last so your singleton isn't alone anymore?

Seems to me your tank is already plenty full but since you got shrimp you should probably just get fish with very tiny mouths...shrimps would be a a great buffet for many fish...as far ab breeding the shrimp you probably aren't being inundated with baby shrimp.

Glad to hear that you’re not having to move! :)
