I Have Had A Serendipitous Encounter.

I am also now looking at a just discovered Tetra-like fish from the Congo. It was just discovered and it is the first catch to be offered. It is reputed to resemple the Yellow Congo Tetra.

Pretty guy. They are going to watch it's behavior and see how if it is suitable for a community. I don't knoe about getting into breeding this though LOL

WOW! That fish is beautiful!!!

Looks like someone somewhere in Zaire/Congo has got their act together. There are vast stretches of waterway down there which have never even been explored, let alone collected for export. The travelling is tough going mind. I was driving a Bedford M Ex-Army truck on the Pan-African Highway near Lake Kivu in 1992, the mud was waist deep, and where the road was a little better, the potholes were larger then the truck - literally, and full of water so you couldn't see it until someone waded out. A winch was absolutely essential gear for getting around. Often, even in good weather, the best you could do was about 5km per day.

So what are you doing here, LL? Why aren't you getting us fish in the streams of the Congo?

Are you going to hold my hand if I get either of these? Do you think I could breed the second ones? I am assuming that the first ones are not very hard to breed if they adjust to my conditions.

Both species have completed their trips to the States and are adjusting to the conditons in their Florida tanks.

I don't really care much for the first one, but that red one is beautiful! I would love to have some of those.

If the second fish is anything like the congo tetras it resembles then breeding shouldnt be too tricky, soft water and some early morning direct sunlight along with a good diet with pleanty of live foods is usually all thats required to get them in the mood.

Raising the fry is a bit trickier as you have to get insofuria colonies and brine shrimp hatcheries going to supply a constant stream of food for them until they reach 6-10mm, which is where i always managed to stuff up when i was breeding things, i'd forget to set up the next days food the day before and half the fry would die, you need real dedication and no distractions to breed multiple egg laying species but i've always found the pub just that bit too tempting :(

LOL It remains to be seen if I can be consistant enough or find alternatives that work with either of these.

I have breeding nets with my Corys that have so much algae and moss that there is a constant supply of micro thingies for the fry when I get too distracted. I have found canned bring shrimp by Atison's. Will that work, do you think? I really don't have lots of time during my 10-12 hour work days.

Thanks for looking in CFC

ICG: the first is a fairly rare "holy grail" sort by enthusiasts I have been told and LL confirmed. The second is a newly discovered species that this may be the first offering. It is very pricey. I like them both actually. The first ones are only an inch or so big. The second I imagine are big. Maybe like my female bleeding hearts. I am ignorant! LOL

I really like the second one because it is bright. I like bright colorful fish.
The first one is kind of bland looking. It is cute, but it needs some color. They would look good in a tiny tank though.
