I have fry!!! Eggs hatched yesterday. Here's a pic of the father, DeLaunce. One of my friends has my camera right now, so there aren't any other photos available. The mother is a blue crowntail.

Here's a blurry photo of the mom. She's the multicolored/blue crowntail on the upper right side of the photo.

Ack!!! The fry weren't free swimming last night when I went to bed, but they were when I woke up... and the dad was acting like he was pac man trying to gobble them all up!!!

Hey everyone!

The fry are free swimming, and I've been using an airline hose and a stiff tube to siphon out waste from the bottom of the tank. I have also added some small snails to help with the accumulated waste. As soon as the fry were free swimming on day 3, I took out the dad, and started feeding microworms and Atison's Betta Starter. The betta starter is a powdered fry food that disperses on the surface of the water. The instructions say to feed from day three onward. I have also noticed a fair amount of infusoria... lil critters that flit all over the tank.

Even though there is all of this food available, I have not seen a single fry eat anything? They must be eating right? They've been getting slightly bigger. The fry are about 6-7 days old now. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

First off, congratulations on the spawn :). The male is a very nice double ray black orchid (?) with strong rays, very nice . On the question of the frys, they're probaby eating when you weren't looking. As long as they're getting bigger and fatter, there's nothing to worry about but just make sure you don't overfeed them. Good luck with them JoLtNbolt

I got the dad off of Aquabid from Indonesia... I guess I just assumed the fry would go after the food/microworms when I add it to the tank.

Ack!!! :/ I just noticed one of the snails laying eggs in the tank. Should I be worried about this? Should I remove the eggs?

No. The baby snails are great in my tanks. They keep the bottom sparkling clean, just vacuum up their waste and you've got a crystal clear tank. They'll eat anything left over on the bottom. Mine lay eggs in my tanks all the time. When they get bigger, I move the baby snails out of that tank and put them in a different tank with an adult betta. :3

And add me to your list to keep updated! I will be wanting one of your females. I have a black copper CT male I want to breed. Maybe a male too. :3 Raise them babies good!

So I'm guessing that if I were to attempt an F2 cross, I could get 25% that look like the dad? Is that correct?

Am not an expert, but both your fish are CT's so you might get mini versions of DAD with F1 :D
