Evening all,

I posted a topic a few weeks ago regarding my Labidochromis Caeruleus being pregnant, well they both WERE!

Did a water change on 11th July and spotted 1 baby. As it was my first, my 5 year old daughter was so excited i had to do something before it became fish food for the others. Couldn't afford a smaller tank so i bought a plastic, floating fry tank, and in it went.

Came home from work today to find neither are holding any more :shifty:

Spotted 3 more hiding amongst the ocean rock, caught them and put into fry tank.

In hindsight i should have left them to look after themselves and see what would have happened but, my daughter and son would have been upset( ok so i was excited as well :hyper: .

Sorry to ramble on but obviously the floating fry tank is very small, at what size can they be put back into the main tank, without becoming fish food?

Am i expecting too much, this is my first tank and things are going so well.

Congrats on the babies!! :yahoo:

I'm not sure when you can add them for sure??? I'm not sure how big the float containers are either.

In the past I've added my lab fry in at around 3/4" if labs are all you keep. Since labs have small mouths the fry don't have to be to large to avoid predation. However, labs are slow growers and those floating traps are really too small to keep fry in long term. I'd leave them there for about 2 weeks then reintroduce them, if you're lucky they'll survive. If not, don't worry, your labs will surely breed again. :good:
