Well today, I woke up a bit earlier than usual. Came in and sat at my comp after turning the aquarium lights on. Look over at my betta Rex, and notice something strange on the cabomba. I stare at it for a second and realize that... it's moving!
It's a dern snail in my tank! lol
I was just shocked b/c I haven't noticed it before.
It must've come in on the last batch of plants we got a month ago. I'm just surprised that I've never seen it.
Anyways... it's actually kinda large. Well not large like the blue mystery snails and such you get at petstores, but large for a "pest" snail.
I'm not sure if Rex has noticed it or not. If he has, he could care less about it which is kinda good if I ever wanted to add something in with him.

But yeah.. that's my exciting news of the day.. I now have a snail in with my betta Rex :p I should probably take it out, but figured if it survived me medicating the tank, putting coppersafe in the tank, and adding salt, then it deserves to be left alone. It's not harming anything. It sure does poop alot though. There's tiny little snail poop all over some of the plant leaves... bleh lol

Here's a bad pic of it...it camos itself very well in the plants.

  Have you got a name for him??

Steve.... I was actually thinking about it earlier heh... and Steve seems like a good name for it *nodnod*

Steve the Snail.......I think that suits him  I wonder if there are any brothers & sisters lurking about

the ony thing i didnt like about my''pest smails'' was the fact that i removed all but one;; or may they were hiding and i couldnt see them , but im pretty sure i got em all'' was that they had baby snaills like evey 2 weeks,, they looked like clear snot with dots before they hatched? can they have babies on their own or do u need a male / female

I really hope it's just the one in the tank :p
I figured since we've had the new plants for a month.. if there were more, they would've popped up by now. Or maybe there were more in my 10gal and the medicating + salt + coppersafe + piggy bettas got rid of alot of them *shrugs*

I read that there are some snails that can store sperm for quite some time. I'm not sure if the "pest" snails do that though.

Sorry to tell you but with pond snails you only need one to make a million of them. They are hermaphrodites. One snail came on a plant that I got and now I have a whole tank full of them.

Most of my bettas eat the snail. I have one that hasn't eaten them all out of his tank. One thing about snails they are little poop machines, another thing is if you see them trying to escape chances are there is something wrong with your water and you should check it out.

Are they? Well... I guess it's a good thing I've been calling it an "it" :p heh

Anywho... with this new info.. maybe I'll be taking Steve out now :p It could always go into the 5 gal. Be easier for me to monitor if it starts laying eggs since it's not heavily planted *nodnod*

Maybe I'll get a different kind of snail though. Fiance has been wanting to get a blue mystery.. so I guess I could try one of those instead :)

Just and upate...

Well.. I decided to take little Stevie out of the tank and put it into the 5 gallon instead.
Well.. I shook it off of the cabomba it was calling home and into a cup, quickly ran to the 5 gallon and shook the cup to get him into the tank.
My attention got averted for a split second, I looked back at the cup and he was GONE
I didn't hear a plop as if he fell into the water, didn't see him anywhere in the tank, but also didn't hear anything as if he had fallen onto the floor. There really wasn't any way she could've fallen on the floor, but just the fact that I didn't see him anywhere in the tank had me searching everywhere for her.

So yeah... hopefully she's resting in his new 5 gallon home with a bunch of baby platies.

Another update...
Steve is fine in his new 5 gallon home.
Woke up today, went to feed the fish and saw her butt happily oozing across the decor.
