so I was out on a hike this weekend and found an old deer skull and i had a crazy idea prep the skull like I would for an English mount scrub it bleach it soak it dry it soak it in clean h2o then dry it and add it to my tank as decoration thought it would look pretty cool but how would it be on my fish to have bone in the tank all I can think of that might happen is there be a rise in calcium levels in my tank dose any one else know if this would hurt my fish at all So what dose every one think of this idea can it work

I don't see why not. Just soak the bajesus out of it. Personaly, I'd attach some moss to it too, give it a really cool look..

I don't see any problems. Just do what you would do when you mount it and give it an extra good soaking.

During that last stage you mentioned where you soak it one last time in water before drying it you could simply use your water test kits to test for a change in the things you are worried about (KH, GH, whatever.)

I read about doing this in another thread on TFF the talked about what to do when putting "unknowns" into a tank.

Do you not think it would raise your KH but slowly over time so it may seem OK but months down the line you may have pretty hard water. Or will it show up straight away when your soaking it.

i am planing on trying it right now i have it soaking in bleach water going to scrub with an old tooth brush tonight will soak tomaro in the bleach water then let dry and soak in plain water not planing on boiling it think it would soften the bones too much ill try to post a pic when i finaly have it done thanks for the input guys i apreatiate it
