on my built in tanks, I ran the wood down 1 inch past the plastic framing in effect to give me 2 inch's of water coverage at the tops of my tanks ... I've seen everything from duct tape, to a similar matching color or wood grain tape used on the tops, so apparently I'm not the only one that dislikes the air space on the tops... my old acrylic, has no frame, but that was placed to only be visible from my work area, so I haven't done anything to that one... of coarse if I had tops on my tanks, and doing my biweekly water change and top offs, just doing water changes would take care of the "air gap" thing, but most of my tanks are open top, with emergent plants, so it works out with the 2 inches on my tanks, that if I can see the air gap, it's time for a water change... if my tanks only had one inch coverage on the tops, I would probably start doing 3 water changes per week, any time water went below "the line"
do the air gaps bother you, and what to you do, to alleviate that???
