Why would you want to run an overflow if your tank is drilled. Overflows are used for tanks that are not drilled to carry the water over the back if i'm not mistaken. Overflows also tend to be quite expensive £60+ from what i've seen where as a wier will run you about £5-10 if you make it out of glass, maybe a little more for acrylic. The wier in your case with holes at the top would be there to stop critters getting into pipe work. Lots of people use B and Q piping in reefs just google it. My sump has been a lot of work and a reasonable amount of cash to setup but the flip side is i'm hoping it will save me Stress, money and water changes in the future. I look at it as paying up front now to not have to pay later. It's possible that the guy at the LFS was just trying to make a profit not neccesarily trying to help you but i could be wrong.

Im not quite sure what you mean by overflow but im guessing not an external overflow box. Can we have some pics of the holes? Are they literally just 2 holes, 1 either side of the tank on the back glass?

Yup 2 holes at back top corners.

crap pic but this is left and same on right. 4cm holes but still some silicone around them a bit.

Clean all that silicone off and make sure that is definetely the correct measurement. If it is 40mm it is these connectors you want. Im not sure how you are going to use them holes though, are they the same height?

Sure it's not 43mm. Would make more sense for tank this size as it would fit a 32mm plumbing. Not sure where your tank is but just overflowing down the holes will probably be quite noisey just so you know.

That is true so a couple of mm will make a huge difference in the size pipework you are going to use, especially on that size tank.

Def not over 4cm in fact might be more 39mm have just cleaned off the silicone.

Holes look level but atm nothing to check they are 100% level

I realise the noise but im used to it
