Ok I know the benefits off a sump but just been to the lfs and it is going to cost over £100 to set it up or the pipework etc. I just don't have that to spend on a sump! I know they are better but it is giving me a headache. All this about working out the flow in and out compared to the pump and taps by the sump to control flow.

One good thing, I don't need a weir as my holes are at the top of the tank so I can run it to the level of the holes!

I need some serious help, I have read through things online but I get so confused, I need one person that knows what they are talking about to help me!!!

I think I am going to go and cry now....

If you don't want a sump then don't have one, I only use mine as a refugium and only started it after a year of fish keeping.

I liked the idea of more water volume, ability to hide bits and the space for things like chaeto etc but it seems so expensive just for setting it up

How very dare you slag off the almighty sump. I would love one personally. Just to say that I got one! Lol

It shouldn't cost anywhere near £100 quid for piping.
Go b&q or homebase and buy general plumbing pipe and valves. Much cheaper.
Would it ba a gravity fed system or 2 pumps?

He said de don't use b&q or similar as they gotta be food grade otherwise react with the salt water.

I think it would have been gravity out pump in. Make sense?

Pfft food grade! My sump is made from a plastic storage box.

Sounds a good cheap idea! I already have a tank given free with the 6fter and the pump but need the piping!

my lfs said he thinks around 370 for piping then the fittings etc and taps!

I shall have a look but tbh not 100% what parts I need to buy

Trust me, plumbing pipe can do the job and salt won't make the blind bit of difference.
These pipes are subject to chemical flushes in domestic property's once in a while so a bit of reef salt ain't gonna harm it.

Save yer money love and go to a diy store! Lol

Gravity fed it is then :good:

Yup, so next question please could you give a rough list/name of what it is I would need anyone?

3cm holes, there are 2 holes, one top left back one top right back. I figured it was one in one out. If I am honest I don't know about different setups for sump piping, I was counting on the lfs to say here it is and do this with it!

Then looking DIY is your only route if they are too expensive. Are you sure it is 30mm? That seems small for that sized tank? Are you using a weir?

If it is 30mm you will need 2 tank connectors: here

You really need to know what kind of system you will be running to your sump, then we can help you choose what bits you will need.

HTH

Thank you! Well my BF measured and said 3cm but when I get home I will measure myself!!

What system would you reccommend for this size tank then, or if it was you what would you do, bearing in mind I am looking for something simplish! :D

Oh no weir as I was going to but guy in lfs said as holes are at the top I can run overflow through them.
