lol. it's not the magic its the people and stuff in it..

and for the wwe.. the way the people happen to look. act.. and do things on it.. Then in real like they tend to kill thier own families? That's how i see it's demon possessed...

I can't stand Harry Potter either. However; I don't mind if others are obsessed with it. Hey we've all got something in which we're a little more invested thatn we ought to be don't we?

I don't see the appeal of H.P. only because I've never enjoyed fantasy and magic. I consider myself to be a deeply religious person but the darkness in the H.P. series doesn't offend me. That stuff is pure fiction, made up in another person's imagination so to each his own I guess.

I tend to be drawn to literature that deals with the real world. I don't usually even enjoy reading fiction because of this, I prefer a good history book or a scientific publication. But again, others can't get enough of the Dragons and magic spells and that's fine with me.

The only thing I see as a problem is when people are so into these sort of things that they begin to affect the way they interact with other people. I've met a few who can't help but have hard feelings when I tell them that I never got through the first H.P. book, they can't let it alone that I've somehow missed out on something great. It's even happened where a few have harbored ill feelings toward me simply because I don't like Harry Potter.

Doesn't really matter in the end thought does it?

I probably came across differently, in my original post, but I feel the same way as you, I don't mind if people are obsessed with it, but with it being all over the news, and not to mention, the FIRST 5 PAGES OR SO on the Sunday newspaper, it just really annoys me. I bolded a paragraph that you wrote because a kid at school once told me that he loved harry potter and all (BTW-He was 15 years old) and I said that I hated it, for the rest of the day he acted really weird and gave me weird looks all because of that!

I actually agree with this thread. The first 2/3 books or films (never read the book haha) were ok. But now its just like JK Rowling is getting a bit greedy. With all her wealth she seems to be writing less interesting books. I had to read one of them for a school thing but now I wouldnt even consider buying it :(
Sorry but I think Harry Potter and all the cast are getting a bit press greedy and just want more money, but are putting less effort in to get it

I love Harry Potter. Best books I've ever read! :good: And I am religious, too. My church even had a Harry Potter Bible study! But I respect other's opinions. You can hate the book if you want to.

But I totally disagree with you on the greedy thing, Ricky. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma have not spent much of their money at all. Emma is saving hers for college. I read in an article that J.K. Rowling is considering writing future books under a psuedonem so no one will know she wrote them. That way she'll be able to tell if the books really are interesting or if people are just reading them because of her name.

No matter what, J.K. Rowling went from being a homeless person to being very wealthy... who cares who HP is.... I give her a lot of credit for changing her own life so dramatically.

I love fantasy books so Harry Potter is one of my favorite... IMO, definitely not a boring book. The books I have to read for school on the other hand... blehhhhhhhhhhhh.

It's pretty closeminded to say every person who reads them is a raving fan. The attraction for me is really just the amazement of how J.K. Rowling could come up with such brilliant ideas and for my own amusement. Others have different tastes. I hate the diehard fans who could do anything for HP, but who doesn't? Don't judge a book by raving fanatics or call it stupid by your own qualifications and want to press that onto others. Also mcdaniel, my whole family (well, not me) is fairly religious and they don't see anything wrong with it. What is it exactly about the characters that bother you?

Personally don't like them -but everyone has their own taste. I think they go a bit out of control when you're trying to watch the weather and every news station is doing a 30min-1hour report on the new movie and book.

I love the books, not in a dress-up and camp out in line sort of way, but I personally think theyre very very good books, and after reading them all and taking it all into perspective I think that JW rowling did a great job with the story. I've probably read the first 6 books maybe 10 times each and ive already read the last one twice in the day and a half i've had it. I have plenty of other stuff to do usually (i'm not a nerd), but when you find a really good book its hard to put it down.

To each their own. And whats a good Vonnegut book to read? I read really well (truthfully) so it doesnt have to be something easy to read. I've really been wanting to read his books but i've just never done it.

I guess I went a bit too far with it, but the news have mostly stopped now, so everything is back to normal, not as annoyed at HP anymore. (but i still don't like HP)

Well, I enjoyed Cat's Cradle and Breakfast of Champions alot, Slaughterhouse-Five is his most famous though, and it is probably the best to get used to Vonnegut's style (which is why I like his books so much, they are so different from everything else I have read). BTW- His books are not hard to read at all, they are usually only 250 pages long.

I think that harry potter is one of the best books i have ever read, and i am religious to, and i dont really see how it is demon possed. The only reason i really like it is it is a innteresting series and i love books with action, magic, or fantasy. But i also read books about history, and animals so i get my daily dose of everything. Harry potter really got me into reading casue we had to read at school and i absoutly deplored it, also harry potter has opened my mind to everything around me and i have learnt new words from it. I really think it is a fantastic book and i know that everyone has a oppinion. I finsihed the book this morning casue i got at 6:00 pm on saturday so i didnt have time to catch up.

I wouldn't say they are bad books. They aren't demon posses (nor the WWE), but they are kind of weird. I give it that. If you want to read a bad book, read How To Kill A Mockingbird. I could not stand that book. I bent my copy in half cause I got so mad reading it. lol

Never really gotten into Harry Potter. Being a 21 yr old guy. I dont think there would be any people like me that would like Harry Potter. I got nothing against people that like it.

I must admit, i could not see the fuss of any of the Harry PotHead books coming out, nor do i ever intend to read any of them, however, i have seen all the movies bar this one and unfortunately i think that they are all pretty good! I remember making my millenium resolution to swear to not read a harry pothead book when i was in high school (the good ol days) and everyone in school had the philosophers scone book and thought to myself, "You sad sad people, you are like sheep." lol.

And a favourite Quote from Jimmy Carr: (no offense intended)

"I can understand a guy flying around in a broom stick with a lightning bolt stuck on his head"
"I can understand a guy who can control an old stick to do things"
"But a Ginger kid with 2 friends. Now thats gone too far"
