I came across YoYo loaches at the nearby petstore, only they weren't listed as such. In fact, they weren't listed at all. The only Loaches listed were Dojo Loaches and Golden Dojo Loaches. But they looked like YoYo Loaches to me, so I got them (the employees couldn't find the YoYo Loach sticker either, so they just went with the DoJo Loach price, which was fine with me). I bought them out, took all 4 of them, lol

Anyway, I just want to make sure that they are, in fact, YoYos, and not some other species that's going to grow up as a monster fish (Lord knows I'm going to have to upgrade from my 60gal to a 100gal in a year or two, for the Clowns)

I love 'em already, lol. They didn't sulk at all, they went right to exploring, and their presence now has the 3 Clowns exploring too (before, they were hiding in their castle, insecure in their small numbers)

They are Botia lohachata (dwarf Pakistani loach or yoyo loach).
they are meant to only get to 4inches and most do. However, I got some a while ago and they hit 6 inches in my tank and 10-12inches in a friend's tank. We're not sure why :)
But they usually stay small and are a peaceful schooling fish.

All of mine are between 150-200mm, The Wolf also has some big ones. Botia lohachata is an inferior pseudonym of Botia almorhae.

Could it be because the people who write "4 inches" in their books and sites are sadly misinformed?

Nice yoyo's!

all the books say 4inches. I think there is either a subspecies that grows bigger, or there is something in the tap water.
I know there is stuff in the tap water because it was on the news and in the West Australian newspaper today. Apparently our tap water causes birth defects in people. mm yummy. Wonder what else it causes?

While this thread is up (thanks for answering, btw!), I have another question. Do YoYo loaches (and any other loaches, for that matter) like brine shrimp? I have two ADFs in another tank and to feed them, I have to chop a cube of frozen brine shrimp in half, and even with half, so much shrimp gets wasted (and I can't feed it to my Bettas every day). I'm just looking for an extra idea on how to help use up the shrimp without wasting it. I don't even know if it's safe for Loaches

None of the four have eaten any of the sinking wafers I've put in. The Clowns go to town on them, but the Yoyos continue to just go past (I know they know the food is there, as they may stop to nudge it before continuing on). They're constantly swimming around and searching for food on the tank walls and in the leaves (live and silk; they messed up one of my live plant "arrangements" in it's pot last night, thanks to their activity during the night, lol). I don't want them to be going hungry, but granted, I did have a snail infestation before I got them, and I haven't seen a single snail in the past couple of days (I watched one YoYo rip one off the tank wall and savage it, so I know at least one got something to eat, lol)

I can't make up my mind which is my favorite, the clowns or the yoyos. First I like the clowns, but then I'm fascinated by the Yoyos. Then I'm laughing at the Clowns, before gazing after the Yoyos. I think I'm falling in love with Loaches :hyper:

My gosh, they are! I took a video of two of the Clowns fighting over a wafer, and I just finished watching it again on youtube (making sure it uploaded all right). Man, they're just so cute! lol, I've got a smile on my face right now :D

If you listen to them closely (turn ya telly off) you may hear them clicking at each other, mine do, they get quite loud sometimes.
Excellent vid :good:

Do any other fish make clicking noises? it's just i keep hearing what sounds a little like a tap on the glass of one of my tanks... in it are 3 dwarf gouramis, 2 giant danios and 2 african dwarf frogs.... could it be one of them??
