Well, hello again, I haven't been on the forums so much lately.. I got my melano male that I paid a buttload for, along with the copper female for my "wahookie lookalike". Unfortunately, I cannot take pictures, as the uploader no longer works, and since the move, I have yet to find my camera battery, :X So, I will show you their auction pictures instead.

If you look at that picture you will see two white lines by his face. At first I thought that was just some fug from the camera or his fins or soemthing. When I got him, he didn't have those lines, so I confirmed the theory. However, when I had his tank next to one of my female's Kritter Keepers, he flared like crazy and low and behold, the white lines appeared! They are his form of "horny stripes", and they are aweseome... :flex:

Here's the female that I got for my wahookie (the wahookie in my avatar).

And also note, she is absolutely HUGE. Easily twice the size of my wahookie, so I do not know what to do with this.

GuppyDude - It's definitely a female, you can see the oviposter behind her ventrals.

GP - Glad you finally got them. Those "horny stripes" are his gill bars. :p He's so dark so they may not show when he's not excited.

those stripes on the gills tells you that the fish in question is of the "splendens group". the white stripes are probably a colour mutation of the usual red found in the typical splendens. imbellis and smaragdina (both species of the family) on the other hand, will display blue or green vertical stripes.

The black one is awesome. That is one beautiful fish. Great find.

thats interesting bkk, i didn't know that -_- what is the real differances between mbellis and smaragdina?
unlike the imbellis, there is no red crescent on the caudal fin. as well, smaragdina can reach up to 3 inches in length, imbellis only around 2 inches. it also has longer fins. ;)
