Okay, today I bought some already cured live rock. It has TONS of stuff on it. I recognize the sponges and see some little worms and stuff but theres on things on here thats giving me the CREEPS. Its like these super long thin red thingies that look like worms. I just looked over and it was stretched out like 5 inches and the end of it was like rooting around in the sand?? What the heck is this thing? I got the heeby jeebys just looking at it. Also, now there this white worm guy crawling around on the glass of my tank....What is it?!!!!

Okay so basically the Live Rock is scary. :( I thought it was gonna be microscopic critters like in the live sand. Nobody ever told me about this. I hate creepy crawly stuff. How to comfort this phobia?

haha the reef hobbie is not neerly the same as FW or even SW Fish Only tanks...

Yep LR has lots of critters in it.. for the most part they are good.. yes ugly but good. the sponge can't touch air... if it has touched air... it is probably dead and will dirty up your watter.. you will need to scrape off the dead body.
Worms hmm well my friend there are millions and millions of them... need pictures. borrow a digital and get to work :) In general worms are good though for SW. They will dig in your sand and bring O2 just like earth worms do for our plants (grandma always puts worms in the house pots to make sure they are healthy).

Thinks to watch for are crabs.. if you see a crab find out what it is ASAP, then determin if it is good or bad.

to find out what you have do a search on yahoo for Salt water hitchhickers.

Give it a few more days and i bet you will see more stuff :D

I have lots of Abalone from my rock. I also have seaweed/plants, sponges

and all kinds of other critters that i don't know what they are. :dunno:

okay well its aquacultured atlantic live rock by the way. And this worm thingy is like white-ish clear and has no legs or bristles, and he's moving around on the tank like in a one muscled motion. *shudder* I dont likes the looks of him. He's not tiny either. He's liek almost 2"inchs long and like maybe 2 or 3 mm wide. I went to take a picture of him but hes hiding now i cant see him. He may be in the sand somewhere now.....

and whats this about watching out for a MANTIS SHRIMP?

My friend is scaring me with all this crap. Is this something I should worry about and keep an eye on?

Looks like you won't need fish after all. :) Do you think those worms (or other little critters from the rock) might slither/crawl out of the tank at night searching for food? :shifty:

No I think they would dry up and die if they are removed from water. Was that your advice to me? That was pretty crappy.

She was telling a joke... and don't be rude to folks here... go by a book, last advice for you. PLZ refrain from swearing at folks here.

i didn't swear nor did i think i was being rude. i guess i wasn't aware that here on the forums we joke about beginner's questions and concerns.

i came to the forums to get my questions answered that i wasn't able to find already through books. Also just to get second opinions about different things. i am sorry for wasting everyone's time and being rude. in the future i will try to ask more intelligent questions. that is if i even feel comfortable ever again to do so.

Some times we do joke, if you are unsure if someone is joking or not, throw out a pm. We will always give you the best advice we can, and if some one gives you a little crap, be nice but give it right back to them. Do it with a smile on your face, and remember that we are all friends here.

Thanks, Ramjet :)

If you ever buy from Tampa Bay Saltwater, just be careful and make sure that you dont have any mantis shrimp hiding ANYWHERE! The rock is beutiful and living in Tampa I have had the priveledge of going and actually shopping at their wharehouse, the rock looks awsome but it took me some time to get a pair of mantis out of my 90 gallon! not an easy task!
