Well new to me tanks. My ILs brought them for me, so they are used and I'm going to have to clean them up some. They have a lot of that white stuff on the inside of them, so I'm going to go to the pet store and get some cleaner for them. I don't have a clue how many gallons they are. Is there an easy way to find that out? I'm really excited to get at least one of them set up and get my tetras out of the tiny tank and into a bigger one. But now that I know all about the cycling, I'm going to have to be patient lol. I was thinking about putting some real plants in, should I wait until after it is cycled or do they help move the cycle along? Any help would be great.

if you let us know the tanks dimensions, i.e. length, width & height we can tell you how many gallons they are.

If you are going to use any kind of bleach to clean you have to make 200% sure that any residue is cleaned out, as any slight trace will mess up your cycle big time if not even kill any fish.

Live plants are fine to put in while you cycle :D

*I wish I had two new tanks*

Regular vinegar eats the white calcium deposits off and its cheap. Be sure to rince.

Thanks a bunch angelphish, I'll be sure to try that before I get anything else.

The dimensions are 23x11x11. Those are measured on the inside of the tank, if that makes a difference. Thanks for any help, I'd really like to know how many fish I can keep in it

I was thinking of getting some java moss, and I saw another that I liked but can't remember the name right now. It was on a web site that listed if it was easy care or not. If I have time I will look for it and post it tomorrow to see what the experts say ;)

Just bumping this back to the top! I'd really like some help finding out how many gallons my one tank is!

23x11x11 is about 10 UK gallons :)

Well, that's not huge. About 12 US gallons, but it's more than the 5 gallon I am using now. I'll be satisfied with it for a few months anyhow ;) And I have two 12 gallons, so that's gallons all together :shifty: I can get a decent amount of fish when I get both of them going.

Thanks for all the help, I'm sure I'll have more questions once I actually start to cycle the first one.
