Hi all

So I’ve always wondered why I never see any of my orange swordtail fry.. today I watched her give birth to 3 fry at once and the poor little guys didn’t even get to swim as Sheba’s already turned straight around and ate them right in front of me!! She let me put her in the breeders bet no worries and she is still doing the same thing. I can see why she still looks fat even after birth and then expects me to feed her after:rolleyes:

Mother of the year right here!!! trophy1

I have one little survivor, well I think anyways. Yeah ‘see food’ diet here she comes!! Little ratbag she is..if she wasn’t such a Mumma’s girl, I’d be so angry.

You need to feed her more and put a heap of plants in the tank with them.

Females with developing young should be fed 3-5 times a day with a variety of food. You feed them until they are full and no longer interested in eating.

Do more frequent water changes when feeding more to keep the tank clean.

She is one of my girls that eats the most. I feed twice a day in the tank and she is the first to come and demolish the food out of my hand. As well as the algae waffles. But now I know that Colin I will do it this way for sure thank you.

Welcome to the world little ones.

I agree with @Colin_T, I made sure mom was very well fed when I was breeding Mollies. I had a fry box that when the fry were born they would fall into a chamber below where Mom could not get to them. It was made of clear plastic. I do not know if they sell them still or just the fry nets. They really do not know any better.

They sell them but it's even more stressful for the mother fish as its smaller and clear
