Luckily I still had my "female" in the breeding trap when I saw how nutty my male crowntail went. I swear he was trying to break the trap by headbutting it and was trying to lip-lock through the plastic.

She turned out to be a male plakat so I'm glad I didn't release him as they would have torn eachother to pieces. I was confused because I got it from a female tank at the lfs and I thought I saw the white bump, but I guess it was just his poop hole which showed up against his dark body.

joby- LOL..sorry to hear that but luckily you knew more about bettas..i let mine out together and the plakat tore my other males back fin apart

it's ok....i got a female after keeping fishies for a while, and i coulda swore she was a male plakat....but come to find out, she was just a little you-know-what.

congrats on your find....i wish i could get that at our walmart all we get is ugly half dead betta's.....though i did manage to find one that was hot pink

anyway, if you plan on breeding them, good luck!

well looks like im gonna have to buy a real female...lol i wanted to breed the little female i do have but i think shes to young..shes about 3 months old i believe and when she gets near a male shes turns pale and shows vertical lines..

Females get vertical stripes when they are excited . Horizontal stripes is for stress. 3 months old is old enough to spawn. They actually do it easier than older bettas do, just usually not as many eggs the first time.

i have a 10g for breeding my bettas in and a 50g grow out tank..
OMG my mollie just had babies...27 itty bitty babies..well looks like my mom is gonna have a full tank...LOL
