Well, my first and favorite crown is dying. I have been fighting a loosing battle with an internal bacterial infection. At least that's what I think it was. There is no external signs of anything. Just extremely lathargic. Poor boy. His 1.5G hex is only half full cause he can't get to the surface, and when he does manage to get to the top, he goes right back to the bottom and lays out on his side. Poor boy. I'm sorry Darken Rahl!! I wish I could have done better!!!! He is the boy in my avatar.

Oh man. I just checked on him again and he's gone. :-(

:rip: Darken. Your memory will live on.

Thanks. ;) This means that I have to do a tear down and steralize tomorrow. I just have to figure out what to do with the frog and snail that were in the 5 gal with him so I don't put whatever he had back into the tank after it's steralized, or into another tank for that matter. *sigh* What to do, what to do.

Do you have an empty 1 or so gallon tank that you could put the frog and snail in for a little while? Then, when you've confirmed that they can't possibly be carrying anything they could communicate to another Betta, then you can put them in with another Betta.

Yea, I've 3 critter keepers, a 1G bowl, a 1G tank, and a 1.5G hex that are all laying around. I wonder how long it would take for whatever it is to die without a fish for a host? Probably as long as it would take me to recycle the tank after clean up. Well, I wanted to go to sand anyway, so in a morbid kind of way I guess this would be a good time.

I doubt either the frog or the snail are infected in any way, or even carrying anything. But within two weeks, you should know very well whether the frog has been carrying anything, because he or she would come down sick, too, in all likelihood.

I've read that frogs and snails aren't susceptible to fish diseases, so neither one of them should get sick. My main concern is that they might transfer what ever it is to another tank through the dampness on their skin and shell. It only takes a drop of infected water to contaminate a tank.

I figure that, after two weeks or so with really good water changes, whatever it is should be gone if it is on them. I do understand where you're coming from, though. It just wouldn't be a good idea to add anything to their water, because both frogs and snails tend to be pretty sensitive to fish medications, and it'll kill them. So I think your options are probably to decide when you're ready, after a certain amount of time, to put them with another Betta, or keep the frog and the snail separate for the rest of their lives.

So sorry to hear you lost your lovely guy :-( He was a gorgeous boy

I just lost my favourite Plakat so I know how you feel :-(

I hope the frog and the snail are ok :)
