I Bought Me A Snake Today

The snake rapped around the mouse and the mouse was dead in a matter of seconds, Its little eyeballs popped out before it died. Now why would you want to see something like that for,

mmm I wouldnt particularly want to see that, didnt think it would squash it. I thought it just pounced and swoalled it whole? Gone? Maybe been watching too many films...

They squeeze them to kill them and then swallow them whole. Even in captivity when the mice are dead they do it. I guess its just nature or instinct or something cos the baby snakes i had, at only like, a week old would squeeze the food i gave them before swallowing it! Baby snakes are nasty though!!!

Baby snakes are nasty though!!!
And fast! They can tag you so quickly that you don't even have time to be suprised let alone for it to hurt!
Hahaha... this is such a testament to why it's a bad idea to make impulse purchases, even if it's to help out a friend . Still, all's well that ends well!
I'd love to own snakes one day, particularly a royal python ('ball python' for our friends in the US). I just think that pythons have such beautiful faces.

That's not mean...Did you send your neighbor to get a mouse for you? Of course if you put them together its going to eat it. Happens all the time in the pet stores... They feed them rats for nutrients and protien. Its mean to the human eyes but for them its how they live. Its good that you re-homed it .I wouldnt want to see rats die...

Yes I sent after the mouse at the petstore, And when they brought the mouse back I went in the other room after I saw how fast the snake could really kill something. It was still moving when its eyeballs popped out. I couldnt stand anymore. I just told them to take it home with them if they wanted to buy him.

Mine always used to try to escape from their cages, evil little things  And they have that REALLY sharp tooth for getting out of the egg which really does hurt when they bite!!

Never breed snakes people, its not worth the pain

Well the snake has already ate three mice since I let my neighbor take him. I just couldnt stand the thoughts of the mice being killed.

I have young ball python. She's onto two mice because she's not big enough for small rats yet. They can be fussy about color of the food (mine refuses to touch pinkies). I had mine eating f/t until we moved decided I've got enough weird pet food taking up freezer space right now.

Angel,
How big is the boa? You should see a noticeable lump when the snake has eaten if not you need to feed bigger prey or more small prey depending on the snakes girth. Boas eventually end up eating rabbits. I would encourage your friends to get that snake on f/t mice (or rats if it's big enough to take them).

The snake is four foot long now, I think about two inches round. I think it needs a bigger mouse or rat so to speak. Here they dont sell the frozen ones and those people dont have a credit card so they cant order online for any frozen ones. This is such a mean way for something to eat. Is murder something else. I just couldnt take it this is the reason why I had to get rid of the snake. But I will say this much it was a beautiful snake but It looks to me like it had been starved.

Ehhh. I think you're being a little hard on the snake. Just because you spare yourself the sight and mess of the actual killing, every animal you, your cats, and your ferrets eat was killed as well. At least the mouse probably had a decent life and wasn't raised on some factory farm to keep up with the ever-growing demand of meat (9-10 billion livestock animals annually in the US alone). And while the mouse's suffocation is sad, its nothing compared to 15 minutes of bleeding to death that poultry birds face since they are not legally required to be stunned in the US. And at least the snake needs the meat to survive; in the US, we have enough dietary alternatives and suppliments available that really eating meat is a preference, not a necessity (for people; obviously the animals need it). Just some "food for thought" - not trying to be preachy, just pointing out some parallels between the snake and all of the more cute-and-fuzzy carnivores ;)

Anyhoo, no need to start a debate (my way of politely asking that people don't ruin this topic and make it a debate just because I couldn't resist pointing something out  ) Either way, I'm glad that you rehomed the snake. It sounds like he's doing well, and with all that food, he'll be back to a healthy weight in no time. Good for you for rescuing him!

You've got to be a bit careful with the frequency of feedings though, since they need a little time to digest what they've eaten before being given something else.

They told me since the first day I made this topic they have feed it three mice. I just cant stand to see another animal killed. I know they are something that has to die so the other animals can eat but I didnt have to see it murdered :D I loved the snake it was beautiful it just wasnt the pet for me. Does anyone think he should go to bigger food since the snake is that big??? If so I will inform them. The snake is next door to me.

If he's eaten four mice, he should really be pretty well off for at least a week or two; constrictors generally eat a large meal, then do not eat for a while, at times up to a month. Next feeding, they might want to try a young rat. It will be perhaps double the size of a mouse, but still not a huge step up like buying a grown rat would be. However, they *really* need to stun the rat first; it is extremely dangerous to live-feed; many snakes have died this way.

I think someone needs to make a trip to the Pet store and buy a Snake-specific book imho.

Exactly what do you think the snake should eat, if not mice?
