I have had 10 neon tetras die
2 platys
7 cories.

And then my Pictus's are fine, My raphael cycled a tank and is fine. Why is it that i kill the hardy fish. And just FYI 8 of those neons were eaten

Sorry to hear that. :( I know how you feel: I now have only 1 of my 3 male guppies left... he's alone in my 2.5 gallon now. He needs a buddy, but since it's 10:00 pm here now, he's gonna have to wait until tomorrow.

Just out of curiosity, what ate your neons?

Sorry to hear about your losses fishy411. Did these fish die during or after cycling?

8 tetras- eaten 2 tetras i put them in the day i got my first tank. I didnt know about cycling

2 cories- they were Pandas ...... who knows
5 cories- Died of mysterious illness.

2 platys died while i was away of wierd illness

1 honey gourami- Died of bacterial infection.

It's wierds because all the beginner, more hardy fish die and the less hardy fish like Pictus's are fine. I'm just wierd. I also had an Angel get eaten. I havent had a fish die since i found this site though except teh gourami i think.

Yeah, I've had absolutely no luck with guppies, which are supposedly hardy :( They used to be... but some breeders took advantage of a species' toughness and exploited it, by inbreeding and keeping them in gross conditions.. the result? Less hardy fish nowadays.

:byebye: Sorry to hear about your fish. Pictus Cats are notorious itty bitty fishy eaters....lol :X

Neons and Cories are not hardy, in fact they are quite sensitive to water conditions. If your Pictus is not picking off the Neons when they are alive, almost any fish will pick off them once they are dead (or dying). I am sorry to hear about your losses, though, good luck with the rest!

I know Neons aren't that hardy, but I've always thought cories were! Have you kept them before CathyG?
