:-( I just got home and found all of my fish boiled. When I was cleaning my tank before I left this morning I must have hit the knob on the heater and it was WAY up. The temp. was over 100 F. I feel terrible. :-(

         Poor fishies! Oooooops!  A while ago my house caught fire (when I was not in college and still living at home) and I lost some cichlids due to boiling....litterally... :-( :-( :-( I'm sorry.

I'm sure you didn't mean to do that. Don't beat yourself up. Sorry about your fish. Did you have them for very long? I always used to have to leave myself notes to double check the heaters when I would clean my tanks. When I was new I would unplug the heaters and then forget to plug them back in. Now I have myself trained to make sure I remember!!!

No I didn't have them long at all I just started this tank. I have another one at work that I stole water and gravel from to speed up the cycling process. I actually only had them for three days. Poor fishies.

almost did that to my betta once, completely forgot to check the heater, so the temp made it to like 100F + luckily i checked my thermometer cuz he made it  so it didnt turn out bad but i've learned since then Sorry 4 ur loss tho

I am very sorry to hear about your fish.

Can anyone answer why aquarium thermometers go up to and past 100 degrees?
What fish would require that type of temp?

I have seen heaters over-heat themselves. They will just stay on until the water get really hot...You know? If you turn those nobs too much they tend to short out the filament or the heater coil either causing it to turn off or stay on. :/ :byebye:
