I have been setting up a freswater tropical tank for a while now, today I fitted the lighting in a temp installation to test timer and gear.
The tank was new, as is the Eheim external filter and heater... substrate is playsand (Argos) over Ecocomplete....

Water is tap, treated with "Aquasafe"... started adding ammonia on Sunday, to start the cycle...


Heres the kicker... after the light had been on for a couple of hours, I saw "something" moving in the tank... closer investigation shows A FISH !!! But WHERE THE HELL HAS IT COME FROM ? NOTHING has been reused from other tanks !

THEREFORE I MUST BE GOD !!!


This is approx 7mm in length, and bottom hugging apart from the odd "effort" looks livebearer to me ?

Maybe its a killi fish although its not the right shape as they are top feeders........but I know that their eggs can go without hatching for a LONG time if in the right conditions, so....I dont know, how WEIRD!

Defenatly a strange quandry this one. Obviously it has come into the tank as an egg via a plant or some other decor/substrate.

Keep us all posted on this one mate , lets see what becomes of the little ET.

Put a phone in the tank just in case of emergencies.

Well, if it survives you are going to have to keep it and plan your tank mates around whatever it turns out to be...

Its so cute. Do all you can to keep the little critter alive. Then again, if he survived this long he may not need help when it comes to surviving

There are NO plants in there yet !!!! (these came today, from Greenline, so there soon will be...)

Surely its come in from the eco complete substrate (as an egg of course). This is a naturally sourced product pack in a little water. You should contact Caribe sea and ask them if they think it is a possibility!!! Its one of those things that will bug you until you find out.
