I'm gonna stick up for this guy at P@H - I used to work there
a few years ago part time job while at uni. At the time i had no knowledge of fish keeping - my interest was rats and gerbils etc.
I now know a lot more about fish keeping and think back to the advice that I "knew" to be correct and it makes me cringe...
They do indeed have a policy on how many fish can be sold, the store I worked in then it was no more than 3 fish per customer per day, and no fish to be sold to customers on the same day as the tanks.
When selling fish we were told to ask how big the tank was and how long it had been running for, but not whether it had been cycled or not. In fact the leaflets (which were given out as policy on the sale of any livestock) I don't think had any info on cycling either.
Anyway my point is I don't think you can blame the guy. Most people that work there are probably part timers and it's not their fault if they have been given poor training and wrong information. Bear in mind there is a lot to learn about all the livesock there, (don't forget they also sell rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, rats, chipmunks, chinchillas, canaries, parrots, minah birds, love birds, finches, rosettas as well as products for these and cats, dogs, ferrets, horses etc.) and most of the stuff you have to know about is more to do with the products they sell, keeping the shop stocked up and tidy, and using the till, less to do with the selling of livestock.
However the company is at fault for letting their staff sell livestock (fish + others) when they do not have a good knowledge of the care required for the animals.
don't blame the guy, blame the company!
Personally I wouldn't buy any form of livestock from there, fish or otherwise, after seeing how many animals don't even make it to the shop floor after delivery... but that's another story!
