Hi

Iv found and seen this zebra pleco :hyper: (Hypancistrus zebra L 46) and decided it would look realy nice in my comunity tank.
BUT i dont realy know how to care for it.

Can anyone give me advise on them???? (like care and food and tank needed...) Iv tried the internet but not alot is said.

I have a 56l tank (11g i think) which contains:
a pair of dawarf gourami
a pair of panda cichlids
6 flying foxes
1 clown pleco

I have 2 internal filters and do a 15% water change evry week at the moment. Tank has been running for 6 months now and evry thing is fine.

any help will be helpfull
thanks rob :good:

no i havent. are they realy expencive then??? :(

nice website by the way :good:

They're usually over $150 dollars aren't they?

I hear their care is similar to that of other plecos, they take sinking tablets of algae and those made for catfish, like a little driftwood etc. I could be way off though.

A zebra pleco really does not belong in almost any community tank. They need/prefer warmer water- discus temps. They do not compete well for food or territory with other bottom dwellers.

You can find a wealth of information on zebras at a site devoted to them: ZebraPleco.com

in the UK you'll be looking at £100+ for a 1" juvenile....

As TTA has said - they are not suited to community tanks (definitely not at that size) as they are very shy and don't compete well for food.

ok thanks.
looks like its a no for the zebra pleco
well i did find this other pleco (Panaqolus L 204 pleco) i cant find any thing about it but it too is black with white stripes

You already have a lot of bottom dwellers in your tank, personally i wouldn't add any more
