Apparently there's no such thing as a stupid question...

Anyway, so I was wondering if any hydrometer is ok for use in a fish tank? I have seen one specifically for aquariums but there are cheaper versions that say they are for use with alcohol  are they all just the same?

i thought it would be for that, ut thought i etter check before :good: .

However there not very reliable. Better off with a refractometer

Thanks :)

I'll look into a refractometer.

EDIT: I've looked into the refractometer and... I'm not that rich!

thats not true, if you havnt used one, you cant comment can you!!!!!!

get a hydrometer mate, the customer grade refractometers are poor quality and only as good as a good hydrometer, there are two types of hydrometer too, a glass one shaped like a thermometer, and a plastic swing arm one..

good luck
and chris stop telling lies

W.T.F?

I was passing on advise that I've heard on the salty side. So i was passing that information onto someone that has perhaps not heard of a refractometer or ever looked into them.

I was hardly 'telling lies'

Have you got any problems with me? Ive never seen you around on here and 2 posts i made in here you talk to me like im a prick.

they can be both as accurate as each other...if calibrated correctly.

using a solution of 35 grams of salt to 965 grams of RO water and then set it to 35 PPT ...as long as a hydrometer is looked after it will be accurate.
but for ease of use IME the refractometer has the edge
