Good luck to you and your babies. Hurricanes terrify me. My sister lives in Fla and works for the government doing disaster relief. She was right in the middle of every one of the hurricanes last year. Anyone who has never experienced one wouldn't have a clue what they are like. Be careful and be safe. :)

I would leave them. Chances are they will not get hit, but if the house gets hit hard enough to hurt the bettas inside I would hope you would worry about a lot of other things before you would your bettas. Bettas can be replaced. i am sure that there are lots of things in that house that can't be.

Over here in Canada Im just watching the news and there saying its going to be a category 3 and that it will hit sometime Sun or Mon... But im sure you already knew that :) Just sharing some info LOL

i would take them!! or have them shipped to a place you will be staying!!

people say its only a 3 but when a 3 hit us we had to get a hew home it was that bad jsut leveled

I'm having the same problem, only thing is, I'm out of town and my bettas are with my mom. She's packing up to evacuate tonight and she's coming to where I am. I was going to make the 5 hour drive home to New Orleans to pack up my bettas (and my dogs and my cats and my turtles haha) and then turn around and make the 5 hour drive back to where I am now, but my mom decided that she can handle packing them. I'm kind of nervous about her packing my bettas up, but she said that she'd call me so that I can be on the phone when she's doing it. I think they'll be ok. They made a 12 hour car trip with me from Savannah to New Orleans when I graduated from college and they all did just fine. They didn't even get stressed out.

In other words...I vote "take them."

Add one to the take them list.

I would take them because if you're leaving because it may be unsafe, then they should go to. I keep all my lfs cups for in the event of a fire, I am taking all of my fish with me. I look at it this way, I was the one who took them to my house, if I leave them and they get hit by a storm or fire etc, then I am the one who damned them to that fate.

But, you can also be the savior. Yes, it probably would stress them a bit. But bettas ship from Taiwan and are okay, I think a 4 hour drive is managable. Just load them all into a cooler with packaging peanuts and their little lfs cups--make sure to add stress coat. Then, just give them time to settle when you are wherever your going.

That's just what I would do. Be safe and I hope that Dennis doesn't come anywhere near you.

Well, I'm packing up and headed out soon. I don't think the hurricane is going to hit us head on, but I think it will be close. I've moved a lot of special things to my sister's house that is further inland and in a brick boarded up house. I'm taking all of my IRREPLACEABLE stuff with me: My kid, photoalbums, baby books and momentos, my dad's pomeranian and cat, my parrots and my bettas. I bought everything I needed yesterday just in case, and I believe it's better to take them with me than leave them behind. Even if the house isn't damaged, it's very possible that the power will be out and no telling how long, and I don't stay anywhere without power and a/c. So I think it's best that they're with me. Evacuating could be all for nothing, but I'm not taking the chance with any of my pets, no matter what they are.
