Hi,
I've had a pair of Bettas for 2 months and just recently the female (Bright blue
like a male but has a ovipotor thing)has turned bad guy and is attacking the red crown male. They are in my community tank and he's still eating but whats up with it?

its doesnt always mean its a girl just because it has an egg spot some males can also have this. does he/she have long or short fins? maybe its a plakat male

they are in the same tank? then i a m not surprised that one has turned on the other. that is pretty normal behavior. males and females should not be kept together, except when spawning!

i would find another tank for one of them! :D

if the tank is big enough with good enough room male and female can be kepted together as ive done this in the past, but you are right its best to keep male's on there own untill yo plan on breeding then and then thats realy the only time male and female can be with each other.

ow thats to small realy to have male and female i done it in a 4ft with lots of plants, caves so they can get away from him, you need to find a new tank for you male but in the mean time you could keep him in a breeding trap untill you find one

Actually, you could put them in a 500 gallon tank and if they find each other, most likely they are going to fight.

clover - even if you have successfully done it, it was a fluke - and I would have to say that recommending to other people that it is okay is a really bad idea. It's very rare that you can ever keep m/f together in one tank - and even if you do and they get along, you could, technically, end up with babes that you just might not want.

619 - if your fish have gone for 2 months without attacking each other, you are extremely lucky. You should pull one or the other out of there pronto.

i didnt recomend 619 to do anything i just made my point saying they can be kepted together as ive done it, and never ones did a fight brake out or did they have babys as they dont have the time to build a nest a breed as the filter is on.
unless they do it all in the black of nite.
i also said **but you are right its best to keep male's on there own untill yo plan on breeding then and then thats realy the only time male and female can be with each other. **

Okay, you're right.

But I just wanted to make the point in case others read the thread and thought "Hey, that person did it, so can I!" ya know? :)

cool nexted time ill try and type it better than that.
just got my halfmoon doubletail feather tail (good cross aye :D ) a new tank a hex tank will take pic's soon

Cool.
The "Fighting" has calmed down major league and they are actully sharing Blackworms together?

Go figure in the world of tropical fish

It's not really because it's in the world of tropical fish...it's because they are both siamese "fighting" fish. They really shouldn't be together and it'll just stress them out if they are kept that way. It would be better if the male was kept apart...maybe by dividing the tank up or by putting him in a separate tank.

Update-My male is displaying to her and shes got these brown lines down her body?

Again i say

Go figure in the world of tropical fish

She has those brown lines because she's terrified. Those are stress stripes, and it means she's scared of him. And he's displaying because he wants to breed, but she has the brown lines because she doesn't want to.

You're going to want to remove her. He's showing many signs of being about ready to attack her.

i think its breeding bars stress ones are black well on all mine there are

are the strips running from head to tail or from he back down to he belly so on so forth?
does she has the type or stripes in the pic by my name?
