1976 was warmer than this and it was for a much longer length of time...not just spirts of a few days at high temps, it was the entire summer....when the moment you walked out the front door you got covered head to foot in ladybirds, could walk across every resevoir.....my dad had a yellow car that turned red/black thanks to ladybirds and my poor brother in law was first covered in seagull poo then ladybirds, he looked like a bun with icing and sprinkles on topI remember when 25° was a hot summer's day in England, seems like every heat wave is setting new records.
