What is your involvement in the hobby ? Are you a committed breeder ? A planted tank aficionado perhaps ? Happy with your one tank and wanting it to be as nice as it can be ? An admirer of one special fish or species ? There is something for everyone in this hobby. What's your thing ? What's your goal ? What catches your eye and why ?

I'm a killiefish nerd who, when it comes to all aquarium fish, likes reading, breeding and feeding.

I want fish that make me work - hands on species. That's why killies catch me - stunning colours and a need to fiddle around with tanks, eggs, etc if I want to keep them going. It's also why I like breeding fish, because it takes learning about them, and planning. Plus, since that side of the hobby isn't popular these days, even the easiest fish can be presented as being real accomplishments.

I'm going to be trying some newly imported tetra species this summer, as my challenge for slow days.

Complete fishhead😅. I have no direction. I like a bit of everything. Each species has its charms. There are big fish with big personalities and little cheeky crustaceans. I love how my fish interact with their environment, with each other and with me. I can watch for hours, always seeing something new.

Not sure if this makes me unpolished but it definitely makes me happy and enjoy the hobby. If I could, I would have another 10 tanks.

I just enjoy having fish. They are a natural antidepressant to me with their constant antics (and their breeding without permission ;) ). Finally got my first big aquarium this year after too many years of small ones, so my goal has now been reached at last....and I sit and watch them play and interact with each other and that brightens the worst of days.

Addicted to fishes! Whenever I go to fish stores, whoever I have accompanying me starts to grumble, curse and swear to never come with me again because of the time I waste just staring at fishes instead of buying them, and of course for the explosion of confusion over which species to get.
I love species only tank just as community tanks, but all of mine have something of many things. And I have it in mind to expand the hobby very soon.
Vibrant colours attract me most about fishes. Calico, red, blue, white, yellow are my favourite and my friends never understand why I insist on getting neons, rasboras and guppies over big sized, big finned, beautifully colored goldfishes everytime.
My next tank would be a species only tank-that much I know, but whether I'll do a mbuna tank or guppy tank I'm not sure.
In future-well, in future, I don't actually want to have a fish room but I want to have glass boxes all over my house where I can keep all the fishes of the earth.

I'm a fish nerd and have been my whole life.
It doesn't matter if you have one tank or twenty tanks or no tanks, if you are a fish nerd, fish are in your blood, and you have a passion for them always. Life takes us on various paths. Sometimes we keep more fish, sometimes we have fewer or none, but our passion is always there.

I've had several interruptions in fish keeping over the years due to work demands and personal upheaval but I just never could get fish out of my brain. It started in 1965 with a gallon jar full of guppies obtained from a girl who brought them for show and tell in 4th grade. Primarily I was a dabbler who wanted EVERY fish. If there was one I saw that I liked he came home with me. I hold that urge at bay now but with great difficulty. I love fish and if all I could have was a five gallon with one goldfish I'd still be happy because I had a fish.

I must be as fish nerd. I have been around fish and aquaria all my life, starting by helping my mother with her fish/tanks (many!) nearly 6 decades ago. I have had many tanks but never real big ones (largest was a 150g), and now the largest is 125g. I do want a big one (300g or more), but I can't. I now keep 6 tanks +2 "QT" (they are always running but not being QT all the time). I have bred a number of things but have never really been a dedicated breeder. I mostly like the fish, the plants, accomplishing things in the tanks, and the fish people. As someone mentioned above, it is an antidepressant, even though at times they do produce some stress. My favorite tank size is the standard 75 gallons. My favorite type of fish are SAmerican "characins" (in the broadest sense), but I am not into large predator types.

I only had fish once before, when I was a teen. Ever since then I always thought I'd have one again. Fast forward to a breakup and finding myself with more free time and a head full of thoughts, fish were first a distraction just to go back to a hobby I liked years ago to keep me occupied, to something I'm leaning into because there's so much to learn. I like them all, except perhaps plecos.... slow moving, fast moving, happy go lucky bottom dwellers to intense, territory-patrolling troublemakers. Just learning about them, I guess; is something I highly value. Of course I'd like to have all types, and maybe I will soon, seeing as how I just keep adding tanks 🤣

I love pretty much all fish but really like natural looking tanks. I only have space for one so went big (ish), well big for me. Can't imagine needing another one (ok, I lie, but mainly to myself) and am trying to make this tank the best it can be. I love natural looking fish but also like a bit of bling hence my current fascination with diamond headed tetras, love that you catch a bolt of blue in the darkness. My big weakness is see through fish, just love those things.
