Hi,

I have been having trouble finding a new home for a 20" long 10" deep approx 3" wide LARGE PACU
Have finally found someone to take him HOWEVER...Cant find a container big enough.

Any suggestions please as to how larger fish can be safely moved would be most appreciated! Its quite urgent that he is moved asap

Thanks in advance.....Lisa

Call your LFS and see if they have anything they can suggest or even let you borrow.

Use a large clear, food safe container (30L +). You can generally find them at outdoor or camping stores, or in your local supermarket. You can also get large white packing containers that LFS's transport their fish in. Youd have to line the internal walls of the stryophome box with something strong first.

PM CFC, im sure he has many experiences transporting large fish. He might not see this post.

I think if it were me, I would get my hands on a rental truck and a 55 gallon barrel. The barrel would have to be secured in the bed of the truck either by strapping it down or pinning it with something very heavy. Whatever you put the pacu in, it must be very strong to contain it.

I would just simply use a large ice chest, rinse it thoughroly, toss in some good water, and toss in the pacu.

how did your pacu get that big??? any way i would use any thing that can or was ment to hold water that can hold it. an ice chest would do nicely

I used a large plastic tub found at Walmart to transport my 12-14" oscar, and these tubs do come in larger sizes as well, so something like that would do nicely. If he has to go very far you can get a battery-powered air pump to make sure his water is oxygenated.

The best and easiest way to transport fish is in a large polystyrene box lined with a large plastic bag, this is how large wild caught fish are packed and how i have moved my large fish when the need has arised.

Polystyrene boxes can be got at any decent LFS and most will give you a few for free.

Hi again, thanks for the replies...this may be a silly question to you all but what does...... LFS stand for?
Thanks

Here is a pic of the gentle giant himself! :D

LFS - local fish shop!

What about a new domestic cold water tank (usually located in the loft of a house) to move him in, they are strong, cheap..ish and black (he won't get spooked quite so much)?

Could work out to be quite expensive to move the fish... ...I really would talk to the LFS, they wil know the best solution!

How far has he got to travel?

CW

wowsers, how 'tall' is he? He must weigh a tonne! LOL Good luck in finding a solution!

edit* OK my bad, I just noticed you put how tall he is. *duh*

Thats what i thought...but thought i should check as i have been in to 3 aquatics places earlier today and every single one the managers looked at me gone out when i asked if they could tell me how to move large tropical fish....when i asked if they had any suitable containers big + strong enough they laughed!

Will try some others a bit further away see if there any more of a help.
Thanks :)

he has got to travel about 15 miles
