Hiya just wanted to no if you can help i got 5 platies yesterday from local pet store when i got them home i looked on here as a guied on how to sex them and found out i have 4 females(1 mickey mouse) one male.
I Just wanted to no how easley they breed and how would i no if they was pregnant,

Thanks For your help.

Karen.

First off, you have a good ratio so that's lucky. :) If the females are in with the male, they'll probably be pregnant. Platies breed very easily. Some Platies will have gravid spots, which you can find near where the tail meets the body. They should turn darker, as they get more pregnant. Keep in mind though, not all Platies will have them, as sometimes markings cover them or the color makes them hard to see. But honestly, any female is with a male will be pregnant, so you will have fry.

Thanks for that, What does the Gravid spot look like.

Just be aware it might not be black. With orange Platies it will be a darker orange-ish color, yellows it could be red...what color Platies do you have?

male is yellow with red tail, two red female's,1 yellow with red cheeks, 1 mickie

Okay, for the red females look for a darker color, or perhaps a slightly lighter one, otherwise you might not see any at all. For the yellow one, look for a reddish colored one or maybe brownish, and for the Mickey...I couldn't say, because there are many color variations of Mickey Mouse Platies.

Sorry if that's confusing. Oh, and by the way, I replied to your topic in Begginers too. :)

The male's color? What do you mean?

For your Mickey, look for a blackish one. :)

the males yellow with red tail, Minnie is the blue/silver one just wanted to no if when she has fry will they come out same colour as dad?.

if u get me

Oh, I see. It's hard to say. You don't even know if she bred with him, as they can store sperm for up to 7 pregnancies with just one mating. Otherwise, it might be a mix. I'm not sure which colors are dominant there, but expect a mix. :)

Ok, Well i will just have to wait and see i supose, Have you got Platies?.

Yep! Lots of maculatus and some variatus. Maculatus are the common Platies, like you have, and Variatus are just another variation of Platy, if you were wondering.
