Hi, here is a solution to stop fry being sucked into a power head filter.

It was suggested to me by fellow forum members so full credit to them of course

The foam, which I cut in half so I have two, came from the pond department of the LFS and cost a couple of quid :good:

3 added bonuses.....
1) food no longer gets sucked in, it stays on the foam for the fry to pick off without them getting stuck
2) I am sure it has slowed the flow down a tad which is excellent for the fry
3) More media for bacteria to colonise

Anyway here it is, simplicity personified!

great idea. that would work perfectly. im breeding short body cons n a 15g and was worried about the fry getting sucke into the filter but not anymore!! thanks dorsey!

thats a nice idea, at the moment i have a fine weave cloth wrapped around the water inlet :)

When I finally get to go home in a week or so. I will be trying to raise my cory fry since they started spawning a few days before i left. Thanks for the info will come in handy when my fry tank is up and running :good:

Doresy,
I have the same setup in my fry tanks and it works great for everything you mentioned :good: I really like it because like you said the fry pick tiny bits of food off it. It was nice of you to take the time and post it for others, if only i wasnt so lazy

Nice work Doresy,
But can I offer a more unobtrusive idea. At the chemist they still sell womens plastic hair rollers with plastic mesh surrounding them, get a nice colour not pink. They are cylindrical and wrap around the intake tube neatly. Sorry to cross your thread just wanted to give you another angle.

Will look into that next time I am at Boots :good: but I do tend to get things that are proved-fish safe
