How to start a CO2 system? Is it necessary?

I’m hoping to set up a black water tank for my betta, because they look fantastic in them and I’ve read that it’s a preferable environment for bettas. Idk if there are controversial opinions about that or not...
The only thing some people dislike about them is the appearance. Two of my tanks are blackwater as that is the natural environment of their inhabitants. As these are forest fish I also have plenty of floating plants in those tanks as @Byron suggests.

Oh, yeah I guess some folks don’t like the look of tinted water. I actually find it really cool! Haha. It’s sorta mysterious and with floating plants, it reminds me of a jungle river. Plus, bettas look stunning in it, especially white ones.
