if you look from above...the females are normally a lot plumper and a bit rounder than the more streamlines males

not sure on the ratio but ive always been told that a ratio of 2 males to 4+ females is good...but obviously with most species sexing is difficult in a shop tank

Hi. Optimally - you should have 4 males for every 2 females, if you are looking to spawn them. - Frank

Hi naughtbutbones :)

Your corys will be happy to have more of their own kind in the tank no matter what their genders are. Since they don't pair up, and the male doesn't continually annoy the female by trying to mate with her, it doesn't matter at all unless you have intentions of breeding them in the future.

As a general rule, the cory females are longer and wider than the males. If the tank at the lfs has a good number of corys in it, pick out the biggest, most healthy one first. This will probably be a female. Then, using her to compare the others to, pick another one that is somewhat thinner. That could be a male. If you can look at them from the top it will be easiest.

If you keep the water clean and at the right temperature, and feed them well, I'm sure they will be very happy with you. :D
