How To Persuade Oneself To Clean The Fish Tanks Weekly?

Fortnightly for me, too, Chris. I think a lot depends on the stocking volume, type of fish, maturity of filter bacteria etc. (I have one tank I do quick gravel vac weekly and that is purely because of the type of fish in there, plus an Apple Snail now that poops a lot!)

As far as tips for the OP to remember to clean their tank... how about setting your alarm clock and getting up half hour earlier on a weekend day? Your tank is only 10 gallon (two of mine are 10s so I know how easy they are to maintain)...you will probably only need to remove one washing-up bowl/half a bucket of water from the tank. Not like you'll have loads of trips back n forth to the bathroom/kitchen.

If you love your fish you won't need an incentive to do it - your conscience will be the only thing you need...

put it this way, if your home was one single room, and you had to do a poo next to your bed without the possibility of cleaning it for a month, would you be happy?

I guess not.

Keep on top of maintenance.

The longer you leave it, the harder it becomes when you do it. I generally only need 5 minutes a week running the magnet around the glass to keep my tank sparkling.

Water changes do need some sort of schedule. But with the right equipment, 10 gallon tanks even 50% changes will take no time at all!

You're moaning about cleaning 45L once a week?!

I'm currently changing 180L DAILY!... As others have said, it's all about pride in your tank and knowing that your fish are healthy and happy! I enjoy it.

saterday is the water change day 25% of 450L,

i clean the glass every two weeks.. so i can see what i am doing. or just befor anyones visits! i have to show of my hard wark ah?

filters every month..

I'm kind of like the others, rather enjoy working and cleaning in the tanks. But ideally, I do schedule it to be at the same time as a long radio news or comedy show. Luckily I have radios in both the tank and sink rooms. WD

I lost my motivation to clean my tank last year and let it get REALLY bad  Trust me, if you ever have to clean a tank that is in a very bad state you'll never let it get to that again - must have taken me 5+ hours to thoroughly clean it

i have bought second hand tanks that have been left in gardens for years, and when u have cleaned one of them out u will think nothing to cleaning your 10g tank out once a week, it took me nearly a week to clean one tank before, cos everyday when i looked at it it still looked like it needed a clean, my tanks are my pride and joy, if u dont like doing water changes and cleaning the tank then get rid of it, as said before would u like to live in one room that hadnt been cleaned for a month

I think everyone suffers now and again from that 'would it really be so bad to leave it just ONE day' syndrome, especially if you have a lot on on your usual maintenance day and don't get time until later on.

I just take something I do want, such as food, and say 'I am not allowed to eat my dinner until that tank is sparkling' and then before you know it it's done.

Also, I just think how much better my fish look in clear water behind clean glass. Cleaning is one of those things where it's much worse thinking about it - once you start its not as much bother as you thought and it's done in a jiffy :)

I don't clean my tank, algae isn't a problem + I have some fish that suck whatever there is, off. I change around 15% per week (sometimes every other week) but even when I have left in for 2 weeks, my ammonia is still 0 as well as nitrites so isn't a problem.

I would never want to leave it any longer than the 2 weeks though, a clean tank looks amazing!

I have 6 tanks which get a weekly waterchange EVERY week without fail PLUS axolotyl tank and 3 turtle tanks which need at least 3 water changes a week.I spread it over a weekend from Fri night to Sun night, doing maybe an hour a day. If you can't be bothered to clean one tiny tank (which only takes a few minutes) why get another tank and double the problem? Either keep a clean tank or rehome your fish and try another hobby.

I'm afraid to say it but justjon is correct. Why get another tank when your not maintaining the 1st one correctly!!!

I am a realist and I know that alot of people don't do as much as most of the people on here but as has been said, when you get a routine it gets quicker and becomes so easy. I do 2 buckets a week and it takes about 15-20mins. Like most people I really enjoy looking at the tank and do look at all the fish and look throughout the tank readily for fish that are hiding so can see what needs doing for when I clean it.

Enough with the niceness from people man............ IF YOU ARE TOO #41#### LAZY TO CLEAN A TINAY TANK (COMPARED TO MOST.... INCLUDING MUA)................. Then you should not even try to keep an aquarium main..............

Yeah, so, I'm back! :D And I know TONS more. >.<; I kinda lied when I first joined about not having any fish tanks, as it's sort of a family sharing thing. XD

Anyways....

I have a fish tank of my own, a 10 gallon, and I'm currently in the process of setting up another one (another 10 gallon, I mean). The thing is, I can never persuade myself to clean it until the whole tank is dirty, green, and full of algae! D:

Is there any way to persuade yourself to remember every week? Because, as I'm sure you all know, you sort of give the job a lick and a promise, vow to do it, and, then... nothing. One thing comes up. BAM! You do that. Another thing. BAM! That one. One thing leads to another, and then.... It's midnight, and you haven't done a single thing on the fish tanks that day. Any way to make myself remember? :/

2 lazy too keep up////////////////////// if it waz me I would take yo god #41#### fingazzz awayyzz
