Its a 34c day today and my tank is heating up. What is a good DIY solution to use to cool the tank.

34C, what a wimp. Hey, when it's 50C in the shade, then it's hot, until then, grow a pair :)

Turn off all electrical appliances in the room except for the aquarium gear and any refrigerators that might be in the room.

Turn the tank lights off during the heat of the day.

Remove hoods or coverglass. If you remove the coverglass, reduce the water level a few inches so the fish don't jump out.

Increase aeration/ surface turbulence to maximise the oxygen level in the water.

Close the windows and curtains in the morning to stop the heat coming into the house. At night, open the curtains and windows to let cool air in.
*NB* If you live in a bad neighbourhood, make sure you have security screens on the windows.

Have a fan blowing on the aquarium. Use a couple of pegs to hold a tea towel on the front of the fan and drip some water onto the tea towel. It will act like an evaporative air-conditioner and cool the air down.

Buy a portable air-conditioner for the room.

Don't worry too much. My tanks regularly hit 30C in summer and the fish are fine.

@Colin_T Do you have tanks now?

Good ol' youtube, where would we be today without it.... :dunno:

I don't have anything. No fridge, no TV, no pets, no tanks, nothing except a plastic table, chair and a single bed with a really uncomfortable mattress. I don't even have an oven that works so can't even cook anything now.

The closest thing I have to pets is all the spiders, ants, millipedes, moths and other bugs that keep coming in here.

Seriously? What happened to your T.V.? I wish I lived closer. I’d give you the one in my guest room.

I lost everything I owned in 2016 when I was thrown out of my home by an incompetent judicial system, and there is no tv signal here so it's pointless getting a tv. No radio signal either.

Sorry to learn that, Colin. My dad went through something similar, but in his case it was a lady who took everything from him. He was sleeping on a beach lounger until we found out what happened and intervened.

You can watch lots of free tv shows and movies on your computer. Or pick up a cheap 32 inch lcd tv and hook your computer to it. Also tons of internet radio stations accessible through internet.

$50 a month for 100 gig but its 50gb peak time and 50gb off peak. And for me, $50 a month is a lot of money and you don't get a lot of movies for 50gb.
