Hi Everyone,

can anyone advise me how to get rid of hair aglae? my girlfriend has set up a 90L marine aquarium and on the gravel and liverock there is hair algae growing. we have brought 3 hermit crabs, ok they are eating it but it is growing faster than they are eating it. is there any other easier way of getting rid of it instead of picking it off by hand? any advice would be great.

thanks in advance.

Does anyone have any ideas??

What are the water parameters, including nitRATe and Phosphate?
What kind of lighting do you use, how long is it on for (how many hours a day), and how old are the bulbs?
What kind of flow do you have in the tank?

Algae primarily needs light, phosphate, silicates and nitrates, and not necessarily all 4, I would use a phosphate remover such as rowaphos or Phosguard which will deal with silicates and phosphates, then look at the lights, direct sunlight can cause untold problems with the tank so need to look at if that's causing a problem, also look at how long the tank is lit, but would be useful to know in addition to Nemos post

Is the tank a new setup?

Is the tank FO, FOWLR or a reef

What's in the tank livestock wise and rock wise
